when a character is so afraid that they’re shaking. no matter how put together or stoic or compose they normally are, when they reach the point where they’re so terrified they can’t control their physical reactions? trembling, breathing hitching, maybe the clink of handcuffs where their hands are shaking in their restraints. shaking so hard they can’t escape noticing it - and can’t escape their captor noticing either.
The whumpee has nightmares constantly. Nearly every night. Dreams of their friends dying in multiple, brutal ways. They wake, quietly check on each friend, and try to go back to sleep. It becomes routine.
But one night they dream, not of their friends dying, but of the whumper coming back to life.
A Whumpee who’s terrified of storms being dragged outside and tied down in the middle of one.
What are y'alls favorite seemingly contradictionary emotions to combine?
Mine is resigned terror.
Like either being so used to fear or so aware that there is no escape from the thing that scares them so they're resigned to it, but they're still so very afraid.
oh here’s a good one: defiant whumpee mumbling “fuck you” during torture and immediately flinching in anticipation of the whumper’s response
The whumpee’s voice cracking while they plead with the whumper. The whumper pretends to hear them out, kneeling down and brushing their hand through the whumpee’s hair.
“You’ll do anything to make the pain stop, huh?”
The whumpee nods all too quick, tears still pouring down their cheeks.
“Then be quiet.”
thinking about a whumpee who's been kept chained up for so long that their skin has been rubbed raw under the shackles, and the moment when they're eventually released. their wrists and ankles being cleaned and bandaged, the sweet relief of being able to move properly. maybe caretaker finally came to rescue them, and they can try to be happy again. maybe they just finally behaved well enough to earn a little bit of freedom from whumper, even if it and so many other things might be ripped away at any time. mm.
i'm also lowkey obsessed with power-suppressing restraints for superpowered/magical whumpees... it's a great way for whumpers to make their normally powerful whumpees helpless, and can add even more layers. the moments of panic and realization when the cuffs/collar/etc are first put on them, or waking up to it after being captured. the extra rush of relief when they're freed of being able to access that part of themself that was locked away for so long. or more panic if their powers start to act up because it's all rushing back at once and they can't control it, even though they trained so hard before being imprisoned. ehe. ehehehehe.
maybe i should make a whump blog
YES YES YES YOU SHOULD ABSOLUTELY MAKE A WHUMP BLOG, and lmk if you do so I can follow you (if you’re comfortable ofc)
Ohhhh I got SO MANY whumperflies from these
I decided to do something a little whumpy for today's daily sketch practice 😏
Behold, my OC Elsie, still without a story.
“Don’t worry, I’m not going to kill you like the others. I just want a little information.”
“Just let me…just let me stand up.”
I don't usually make whump posts but here we go
New Whumpees.
Whumpees who don't know where they are or who this person in front of them is. Whumpees who can't handle one cut without screaming.
Whumpees who are either too eager or too afraid to talk back because they haven't had the time to learn yet.
Whumpee having a panic attack right before being tortured.
Whumpee asking too many questions. Whumpee thinking they must have done something wrong.
Whumpees asking 'what are you going to do with that?'
Whumpees panicking when they get hit even after they spilled the information.
New whumpees who don't know how to hide the pain that makes Whumper happy. New whumpees who can't stay awake when they need to. New whumpees who self-sabotage so much they nearly die from the pain.
A new whumpee who is confused, scared, and for the first time, alone.
Today’s vibe:
That moment in recapture whump when a defiant whumpee goes from “You aren’t taking me back; I won’t let you!” to “Please don’t take me back. Please!”
When caretaker puts their hand on whumpee’s back for support or comfort and whumpee flinches away, stiffening like caretaker’s touch is a blow
The Whumper pets through the Whumpee’s hair. Every raise of the hand triggers a flinch. Every rake of the fingernails begets a wince.
But still, it’s the most comfort they’ve had in months.
chain him to a chair and make him cry just from the sight of all the different instruments of torture. lined up neatly like an operating room. give him time to look at them and imagine how it'd feel, and not know whether to beg not that one or accept it out of fear of what else might be chosen
And then make him choose which one to use on him. And every time you're done, make him choose the next one, and the next one until everything's been used.
