Whumpee knowing they didn't have a chance this time, but trying anyway. And they'll try again, no matter how low their chances of getting away.

Because they can't give up. No matter what Whumper does to them, they'll keep trying. They're a fighting spirit, and if they stop, they might as well be dead.

(Whumper is just amused. They usually stop trying after a few attempts, if they try at all. Whumpee is different. It almost makes them sad when they break and stop.

Thinking about a whumpee —hung by their wrists and forced to stand all day— able to get out of the restraints but immediately collapse from sheer exhaustion. When whumper returns, they’re just curled up on the ground directly below the hanging shackles; barely able to manage weak protests as they’re pulled up and their wrists are locked back into place.

Superpowered whumpee who repeatedly almost escapes, so to keep them from escaping again, their captor literally nails them down Jesus-style, and then if they manage to escape again, they drive a massive spike down through their abdomen, careful not to hit vital organs, since they need them alive, that way if whumpee tries to escape again they'll end up injuring their vital organs and die before they're able to escape.

How about... superhero whumpee finds a brief chance at escape, only to realize that they're so physically injured and exhausted that their powers don't work. They just don't have the energy, even for the briefest burst of their powers, even for the chance at escape. All they can do is crawl, broken and bleeding and sobbing in pain, suddenly aware of how incredibly human they are beneath the abilities that normally hold them so high.

This is the most excellent soup I’ve ever seen. Thank you very much for sharing it with me :D I will fit this into a fic/wip if it’s the last thing I do.

Ideally, only moments later, a foot presses into their back; pushing them hard into the ground. Bonus if the sobs increase because they know the punishment for trying to escape will be agonizing. Double bonus if the villain/whumper literally drags them back; further aggravating their injuries.
