Sooo, lemme get this straight…
You guys give me this pop-up on my dash trying to get money from me when you continue to fuck with said dash in wholly useless, annoying, and inconvenient ways by moving icons and otherwise making mobile (where I live 99% of the time on this hellsite) an absolutely frustrating experience and forcing “live” on me every 7 days AND every couple months for the last few years my tags all inexplicably disappear and the tags I have repopulated since the last disaster get buried behind a bunch of suggested tags that are usually nowhere close to mine/what I’m looking for…
and now you come here asking for money??
You’re not getting a dime until y’all quit fuckin’ around for no reason and start listening to user complaints and actually address things that need fixing.
AND GOD FUCKING DAMMIT!! I go to tag this post and all my tags are gone a-fucking-gain!!
Tumble what tf did you do to the app😭
My blog button is replaced with a tumble mart? It’s a whole mess
I really hope more people will become vocal of how the Community Labels are doing nothing but killing interactions (which we’re already low from before) for content creators here on Tumblr 🙃
In theory? Yes the labels seems like a fantastic idea! It gives creators more freedom to post and express themselves however they want!
But in practice? The function is absolutely awful! As soon as a post gets a Community Label slapped on it, it’s basically dead! Shadowbanned! Censored! Nonexistent! This is most likely (I think?) due to not many people actually knowing that this function even exists so the content that they usually would enjoy is now completely hidden from them because the function was launched with the Mature Content being turned on for everyone automatically.
And the worst part of this function! PEOPLE CAN SUGGEST A COMMUNITY LABEL ON A POST! OTHER USERS! Not just Tumblr. This is going to get abused to bits (and definitely already is) by people that maybe just don’t like a creator so they want to see their content crash and burn.
I really hope Tumblr reconsiders this new function and make some HEAVY changes to it or just remove it altogether, because I wouldn’t be surprised if more and more people leave and quit this site because the content they put their heart, soul, blood, sweat and tears into dies within a few hours…
The tiktok-ification of tumblr is just 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢
Where the FUCK is the tag system search tab!!!!! I’m gonna chew off someone’s entire ARM and BEAT them with it. Violence
Okay so, much like tiktok, the search tab has been entirely consumed by what is now the video/livestream tab (fuckin ew). Can’t tell if this’ll turn out like the group chat feature and have so few people use it that it gets deleted, or if it’ll be the Blaze feature where we all abuse the fuck out of it for laughs while inadvertently making them money and driving efforts in the wrong direction- effectively making the app worse despite taking the piss out of it.
They’re trying to compete harder and earn more money, and it’s becoming less and less recognizable so like. Yeah, I’m a lil worried abt Tumblr man.
Sorry to be spamming my own RBs on this post but IMPORTANT IF YOU WANNA OPT OUT OF SEEING THIS FEATURE AND HAVE NORMAL ACCESS TO THE SEARCH TAB:
So uh. Didn’t realize they were using the term “snooze” LITERALLY, why the FUCK include an option to turn off a feature for ONLY THE NEXT WEEK?? I don’t want to see it at ALL fuck OFFFFFFF
Reblog this version, it has the most context
When people reblog something they don’t like just to complain about it
I am begging people… do not slap giant watermarks on photos of professional shoots of celebs. Or, hell, any photo of a celeb you didn’t personally take.
For the love of god, can we please just look at the picture?? Ffs. It’s not yours anyway.
And if you think adding a filter to make the image a different shade or cropping it makes it yours- it doesn’t. It’s not an original work you have a right to worry about someone taking as their own. But that big ass watermark crossing an image or so boldly and brightly fonted up front and center of some professional/magazine’s photo is.
Or at least be a decent human being and link the source you’ve marred with your bs so we can enjoy the unadulterated image. God damn. You are exhausting.
Tumblr and the No Good, Very Bad Idea
So. You might have heard the news that, as of July 12, Tumblr is testing out converting GIFs into looping MP4 videos to help pages load faster:
This is bad. Tumblr is the only mainstream site left where you can post GIFs and they’ll continue to be GIFs - well, sort of, as Tumblr previously tested and implemented turning GIF into GIFV with the same purpose, and it decreases the quality of the original GIF file. Turning them into MP4 videos is even worse.
GIFs are GIFs. They’re not videos. Creators spend hours making a GIF that will look good as a GIF, not as a video.
I hope I don’t need to explain to anyone why continuing to screw over creators is bad for a site like Tumblr, whose continued existence depends on creators not giving up on it, and why gif-making is important to fandom existence.
I for one will not continue to make any more gifsets if I know they’ll just be turned into MP4 files. It’s disappointing to spend my time making something and watch it become ugly once it’s uploaded - and that’s what is already happening without the MP4 conversion.
WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?
Don’t bother sending a support ticket! They will tell you to do what I’m about to tell you:
Send an ask or submission to @wip - the official “work in progress” blog of Tumblr where people can send in suggestions.
Their ask box is open every Monday from 6AM to 6PM EST.
The conversation isn’t over, guys, but it’s important to be a part of it. If you’re a creator or support creators (and you should), then set an alarm on Monday and go send them a message.
Nobody wants this
You have no idea how much I want this mass migration to tumblr to be real. I would love it if there was an entire ecosystem on tumblr of tiktokers who don't know or don't want to reblog anything, so they are functionally incapable of interacting with the rest of this website. Nothing is funnier to me
"I understand. You found paradise on TikTok. You had a good fyp, you made good content. The censors protected you and they were friendly for advertisers. So you didn't need a friend like me. Now you come and say "Tumblr, give me content." But you don't ask with respect. You don't offer reblogs. You don't even think to call me "Hellsite." You come into my house on the day my blorbo is to be married and you ask me to do content - for likes."
People who send anon hate and expect to be taken seriously are so funny like ohhhh shit looks like I got the Phantom of the Askbox on my ass
the anonymous button is for respectful questions and confessions of love not an excuse for you to be a demonic bigot
This is 100% new and 100% Tumblr with 0% ads.
If you love ads, then this post is not for you. If you love Tumblr but hate ads and want the one to continue without having to endure the other, then this post is literally for you. Hello, you.
As of today, you can set up ad-free browsing on your personal desktop computer, from anywhere in the world, and then enjoy the same effervescent Tumblr you know and love (yes, including mobile) without the interruption of ads. Scroll away.
Some caveats:
- It’s $4.99 for a month of pure, unadulterated nonsense.
- If you like a discount, you can get 33% off (that’s four months for free) at $39.99 for a whole year. Imagine.
- This is opt-in. You don’t have to do this. We won’t make you.
How do you opt in?
Easy! Just go to your Account Settings on desktop and hit "Go Ad-Free." From there, you can choose to pay monthly or yearly:
And that’s it! You’ll be able to enjoy your favorite blogs and posts without any pesky ads getting in the way.
That’s all for now, Tumblr. Back to your blorbos.
I really appreciate tumblr going this route. Websites need money and staff need to be paid and a subscription model is much more reliable than microtransactions or selling ads.
You need to use desktop mode to set it up, but I'm glad to see it works on mobile too. I use android and don't have xkit on my phone.
It's also opt-in, so much like AO3 donations, a small percentage of users can support the site for everyone.
I'm happy to pay the site directly for the hours of enjoyment it gives me, and I'm even happier that my money won't go through a middleman, so more of it will go to the employees and to site improvements.
I understand not wanting to pay. You do you. I'm going to help keep things running in a way that works for me.
Wonderful! At last a good decision by tumblr staff.

- We removed group chat on Wednesday, September 22nd.
- Swiping right on the dashboard in the apps no longer opens the camera.

🚧 Ongoing

Now how about giving @postplus the ax?
my friend just told me that there's a secret second dashboard that solely contains posts from people you've turned on post notifications for, and when i click the link in the messages it opens it within the tumblr app, so the tumblr app also has a secret second dashboard for post notification blogs, and the only way to access it is to open the link for it within the app.
i literally love tumblr
I don't remember doing this
In light of the recent PostPlus nonsense tumblr is trying to pull, here's a reminder that monetization of fanfiction can lead you to legal trouble. On Ao3 it's against the TOS to even mention any money-sending site at all because of the conditonal protection they offer.
Putting your entire fanfiction blog behind a paywall is like pointing a neon sign saying "please sue me". I bring this up specifically because tumblr mentioned fanfiction in the post that they made and that is going to leave a lot of people misinformed.
Remember: Do NOT paywall your fanworks.
And rest assured, my blog will never be pay-to-read, even if this weren't a fanfiction blog. I think the whole thing is ridiculous.
