Evanschess- Or how to get through a hump day

Tagged by @not-a-natural-born-idjit! Going Halloween themed.

Rules: Use five minutes, and only five minutes, to write a drabble. No re-reading, no editing. Tag ten followers afterward.

“Whoa,” Bucky says, trailing his eyes up and down Captain America’s body. “You look just like him!” 

The guy smiles all crooked and dimpled like the real Steve Rogers, but he’s in Bucky’s mediocre apartment complex in Brooklyn, so there’s no way he could be the real Captain America. 

“TRICK OR TREAT!” Nicole interrupts, holding up her plastic pumpkin half full of candy that Bucky is going to end up eating too much of after she goes to bed. 

“So I’ve been told,” the guy says from under his mask. He kneels down and puts some tootsie rolls in Nicole’s pumpkin. She tracks his movement and looks at the tootsie rolls as they drop into her bucket. “Here you go. That’s a great costume by the way.”

Nicole is a Jedi Knight, complete with little hair buns that Bucky had to YouTube to figure out how to do. “Excuse me, sir, but do you have any Reece’s cups? I don’t have enough teef for tootsie rolls.”

“Nicki,” Bucky chastises. “There’s plenty of candy you can eat.”

Cap laughs. “It’s okay. Here, I have a couple Reece’s cups.” He fishes some out of the bowl and drops them in the pumpkin.

“What do you say?” Bucky asks her.

“THANK YOU, CAPTAIN AMERICA!” Nicole shouts, and runs to the next apartment.

Bucky keeps an eye on her, but before following, asks, “So are you new here? I haven’t seen you around bef–” he looks over to see Nicole running across the hall, nearly tripping on her Jedi robes and hitting another kid with her light saber, “Nicki, be careful!”

“SORRY!” she shouts before scuttling off to the next door.

There’s a wide grin on Cap’s face like he’s having just as much fun as the kids are. “Yeah, I grew up around here, actually. Been away for a while, thought I’d come back.”

Bucky holds out his hand to the guy. “Welcome to the neighborhood. Again. I’m Bucky. I’m downstairs in 3C, but Nicki rearranged the letters so now it reads C3PO. Confuses the shit outta the mail guy.”

Cap takes it. “Thanks, I’m Steve. Rogers.” A pink tinge creeps up his face, like he just admitted a secret.

Bucky’s eyes go wide. “Wait, you’re really…like, literally…”

“Captain America, yeah.”

At the corner of Bucky’s eye, Nicole has reached the end of the hallway and is about to head up the stairs to the fourth floor. Bucky backs away from Steve’s door while saying, “Okay, well I gotta go before Nicole starts force-choking me with her mind, but maybe…we could grab a bite to eat sometime? I’ll show you how the neighborhood has changed since the forties.”

That takes Steve by surprise, and he says, “Yeah, that’d be great.”

“DAD HURRY WE ONLY HAVE AN HOUR LEFT! MY MIDICHLORIANS WON’T LAST!” Nicole yells from the other side of the building.

“That’s not canonical, baby,” Bucky calls back, and backs up while telling Steve, “Awesome, talk to you soon!”
