for the love of god please listen to old users when we say this site works differently. that you can’t just sit around with a blank blog. make posts or reblog, but do something at least. this site works because we don’t have an unavoidable garbage algorithm forcefeeding us posts based on our likes. we do not need another fucking twitter, tiktok or instagram.

liking a post is literally useless here. we don’t have an algorithm. we see posts when people reblog them onto our dashes, they show up in a tag we’re following/searching, or they end up chucked into our recommended page (very inaccurate, basically just popular posts that may be vaguely related to your interests sometimes). liking doesn’t do anything. it’s just a button that’s there to show, hey, i saw this post. or you’re saving it for later

this is (partially) why art blogs are dying. if you don’t actually reblog the art posts you enjoy, they won’t reach anyone and just...stay there with a few likes.

A Reader's Guide to Tumblr

Welcome to the world of Tumblr. You have stumbled upon the world of fic fictions. You will live in your fantasy world. The possibilities are endless.

Here are some rules for readers to remember. Just simple rules and be an amazing support of your writers.

1. Don't demand from the writers.

We all have a life outside the Tumblr world. We write when we can or are inspired.

2. The key to spreading a writer's content to others of the writing community is to reblog.

You can just reblog it or comment about your favorite part of the story. Creating these worlds for you to dream about is free and we love it when our work inspires someone's daydreams.

If you are complaining about aesthetics of your blog, it takes five seconds to make a second blog. Do you know how long writers take writing one fic?!

3. Respect the boundaries of the writers.

If they block you because you don't have your age or 18+ blog or any other reason. Is this your blog? Nope. Nobody owes you an explanation why they blocked you. Boundaries. Respect them.

4. DO NOT SEND ANON HATE.

Why send hate? Does it make you feel better being a bitter person? Behind every screen is a human being. Anon asks is for love letters. If you don't know what a love letter is, go outside and find yourself.

This is a space for love, so if you can't be that way then please don't be a member of the community.

Friendly reminder that fan-made content (fanart, fanfic, fanvids, etc) are:

  • extremely time consuming. Remember someone actually took time out of their life to create that, time they could’ve used to, idk, sleep, for example
  • entertainment you’re consuming for free. I can’t stress this enough: you’re enjoying someone else’s craft for free. You paid exactly zero money to look at/read/watch it.
  • S H A R E D  with you, not made for you. This is the most important point: someone created that, put it online and you found it. No one forced you to consume that fanwork, you C H O S E  to do it.

Whenever you feel like leaving a mean comment, anonymous hate or make a ~clever post about how ‘lol look at all of these overused tropes every fic writer crams into their fics’ remember you’re being a dick to someone who shared their work with you. You’re not being funny, you’re not being edgy, you’re not being brave for calling something out - you’re being a dick.

From now on

You are not allow to complain about lack of content if you don't reblog content.

You're part of the problem. I don't care if it doesn't fit your aesthetic or you think that a like is "just as good". Reblogs are way more important than likes.

A like is like a quick almost mindless thing you do as a "neat" before you keep scrolling. At least that's what it feels like they are.

A reblog is telling that creator: Hey, I really like your stuff and want you to make more. I'll help by spreading your content around so more people can see it.

We all appreciate likes but they don't do any good if no one is sharing the content.

Every time I see such a difference in likes and reblogs it discourages me from writing more and I'm sure others feel the same.

This. All of my notes come from me reblogging it myself. But then when I wake up and check my notes I've been spammed like for my entire masterlist.

friendly reminder to support gifmakers who are still active and creating lots of content despite the horrible treatment we get from users. i don’t know if you noticed but many of us are quiting (and rightfully so), therefore if you want your favorite gifmakers to keep creating content SUPPORT THEM BY REBLOGGING. i can’t stress this enough, tumblr is not instagram, its whole purpose is to create and share. so yeah please try to support content creators if you don’t want them to leave.
