Batman (1989) dir. Tim Burton
#i’m so much looking forward to this chaotic sort of energy coming back to batman with pattinson #the ‘genuinely not sure if he’s joking or not’ bruce wayne energy #like is he gotham’s biggest himbo? is he making a self-aware joke as a social ice-breaker as a kindness to vicky vale? #has he actually never noticed this room in his own house before? #surprise HE’S PLAYING ALL THREE #the twitchy dead-eyed yet gentle friendly raccoon bruce wayne persona that redefines ‘more money than sense’ #is my favourite public bruce persona #all this bruce does is give away his money and pop up at charity galas at which he gives away his money #smile benignly from time to time and tell non-sequitur stories (in good faith!) #and no one can quite tell if he’s got an extremely sophisticated and oblique dead-pan humour or if he’s just dumb as a rock #he once spent an entire fundraising dinner fascinated by a novelty ship in a bottle #and when asked about it he says he’s going to try one full life size bc people could just walk through the opening to make the ship in parts #and someone asks the hostess in genuine earnest ‘is wayne really going to do that??’ #and she’s like ‘I DON’T FCKING KNOW ANYMORE GENUINELY YOUR GUESS IS AS GOOD AS MINE’ #batman 1989 #keep gotham weird (harrietvane)
ITS WHAT WE DESERVE
I’ve said it before, but: the real reason Batman and the Joker are opposite numbers is because the Joker is desperate for people to recognise his comedic genius, while Bruce Wayne – both as a civilian and as Batman – lives and dies by the fact that you can never tell whether he’s yanking your chain.
