A question about feedback

Why are people so quick to send negative feedback, and very little positive feedback?

Lately the only time a writer seems to get feedback, is when someone messages them to tell them how much their writing sucks? Or that their latest fic was the worst? or that they only get so many notes because they have popular friends??

Yet I see very little positive feedback, praising the writer, telling them how much they loved the latest fic. etc etc.

If you don’t like a fic pairing, don’t read it. Simple as that. No one is forcing you to read a fic, that is your own choice.

If you don’t like the writer, then don’t follow them. It’s the same as I said before, don’t follow them. No one is forcing you. You chose to follow them, and you can easily unfollow them.

And dont ever ever say that a writer only has notes on their fic because they have popular friends. They have notes because people read and liked their fics, not because of who their friends are.

It honestly takes more time and energy to send hate mail than it does to just unfollow a blog, or simply not bother reading a fic pairing/genre that you dislike.

Stop spreading hate!!! It has just got to STOP.  I mean what happened to this logic?

Feedback is literally bread and butter for us writers, and without it…. we can wither away. Feel less inspired to write. Or stop writing altogether.

And that would be a very big loss to the rest of the fanfiction world.

So send in positive feedback. Did you love a fic? Send an ask in telling the author how much you loved it!!! Do you love the author? Send ask in telling them as much!!!! Want to know how to get more notes? Send an ask in to an author you admire, and ask for advice.

If you see someone getting hate, send them some love to help lift their spirits. Let them know that they are loved and appreciated.

Always send positive feedback. Do Not Let The Negative Feedback Win.

Stop the hate. Spread the love.

To the Readers

THANK YOU. For reading, for supporting writers, for cheering us on and interacting with us. For putting smiles on our faces, for making us laugh. For talking to us about our stories, for putting more thought into details than we did. For yelling at us over sad endings and cliff hangers, for squeeing over romance and love.

Readers don’t get enough love. So this is for you, no matter what type of reader you are.

Thank you to those who read at all. I can’t see you on Tumblr, but I can on other sites. It’s a great feeling to know that my stories are reaching other people.

Thank you to those who hit the like button. That acknowledgement does not go unnoticed. I see you in my notes and its great to know you enjoyed my story.

Thank you to those who reblog. You’re helping to expose my writing to more people. I love that you thought the piece was good enough to share.

Thank you to those who write a reply or comment. Your input is so valuable. Incoherent babbling lets me know I evoked emotions. Thought-out comments let me know I provoked thinking.

Thank you to those who send in asks or messages. It makes me feel so loved to have that personal message and to hear your thoughts.

Thank you to all readers. Thank you for showing us writers your love, no matter how you do that. If you’re too shy to talk to us, its ok. We see your likes. If you want to comment, but can’t find the words to express your thoughts, it’s ok. We know the feeling. We are so grateful for your support, no matter how you show it!

I say all this because the world of fan fiction takes two to turn: writers and readers. It doesn’t work if one side is rude and ungrateful to the other. It only works if we all support one another and focus on the purpose of fandom, to make friends, to share something we love, and, simply put, to have fun.

So, FYI you guys, sometimes if you go to your favorite writers and flail at them a lot about how much you love their fics with lots of specific examples, they will let you read thousands of words of their unpublished WIPs and you can flail even more. Also sometimes after that you get to be friends, too, and help them come up with ideas. And vice versa! This is pretty much the best thing in the world and it is called fandom.

This is how I’ve made most of my internet/tumblr friends FYI XD

@kalika999 >_> ahem isn’t this how we met lmao

Dear Fanfic Writers

I’m glad you exist and are producing everything from shameless smutty sin that makes me feel like I should go church to the flawlessly fantastic fluff that rots my teeth and gives me diabetes Thankyou fanfic writers for the plot twists that come out of nowhere, the descriptions that paint my mind with colour, the character development that makes it all so believable and for the beautifully cruel scenes that remind me what empathy is. Thankyou for the elation that leaps off my screen and love that makes my toes curl with joy at the sheer wonder of it. So thankyou fanfic writers for taking what I already love and making me love it that much more. You are all beautiful human beings and I am so grateful that you share your creativity and talent with world.

Thank you to all the beautiful writers I follow and thank you to all the darlings who've read what I wrote. You all give me life! ❤️
