My mood…now…

2016 has been hard. It’s been a year where pretty much every political victory has been based on divisiveness and isolation. A year where social climate feels like it’s regressed rather than progressed, with many scared for their safety simply for who they are. And we lost so many. So many that lived their lives in direct contradiction to the tone of 2016.

George Michael who was unapologetically gay, who lived his truth and fuck the people that didn’t like it, he didn’t want them buying his records anyway. Prince, a man of colour who said fuck you to any and all gender expectations and norms, and lived free, embracing who he was and the creativity that came with it. Carrie Fisher, a woman who owned the fact she was mentally ill, who spoke about it openly and freely and always made it clear that it can be a hurdle but it needn’t be a blockade, you can still achieve greatness with a mental illness.

And I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t want to let their spirits die with this hell year. I want to take their attitude and approach to life into 2017. Their attitude of completely embracing who you are and saying fuck you to anyone that has shit to say about it, of living and loving in the most open and honest way you can. This year has been ugly, but let’s take hold of the beauty and greatness of those we lost this year, and use it to make next year a better and brighter one.
