Scott Kalitta

Scott Kalitta was an American drag racer who competed in the Top Fuel and Funny Car classes in the National Hot Rod Association. He died in June of 2008 after his car’s engine set on fire and exploded while traveling at 300MPH. The fire damaged the vehicle’s safety parachutes which were unable to prevent Kalitta from hitting a wall.

The NHRA made this statement regarding Kalitta’s death: "Scott shared the same passion for drag racing as his legendary father, Connie. He also shared the same desire to win, becoming a two-time series world champion. He left the sport for a very long period of time, to devote more time to his family, only to be driven to return to the drag strip to regain his championship form."

1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda - 426/425 HP, Zenith Originality Award (part one of two) One of the most original and highly optioned of its kind, this unrestored 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda has earned the ultimate decoration for such a car: the Bloomington Gold Survivor ZZenith Award, which certifies that "the level of preservation (originality and condition) is extraordinarily high and highly unlikely among most unrestored original automobiles of this vintage." It retains its original paint, brightwork, glass, trunk compartment and most of the original interior. The complete original drivetrain comprises the 426/425 HP Hemi engine with Shaker hood, D21 4-speed transmission and A33 Track Pak 3.54 Dana rear end, augmented by heavy duty suspension and drum brakes. Exterior options include a painted elastomeric front bumper, tinted glass, hood pins, painted racing mirrors, vinyl roof and Rally Road wheels, while the interior is equipped with bucket seats and console, a 3-spoke Rim Blow steering wheel, Rallye instrument cluster, wood-grain trim, 6-way seat adjuster and AM/8-track sound. This rare Hemi Cuda has a well-documented title history, 2 fender tags and the original broadcast sheet.
