Dutch Van Der Linde and his early life beyond the fact that his father died in the war and he ran away from his mother at the age of 15 is a mystery to us as players, however due to the fact he prefered a life of petty crime we assume that his mother was a terrible person, something that might not be true.
Unlike the majority of the gang Dutch does not have evidence of a terrible childhood, he was not orphaned, he was not fleeing from the government, he did not fear for his life and we cannot say that his mother was abusive, almost quite the contrary.
In Dutch's own words, he ran away because he and his mother "did not see eye to eye," and while this can indicate abuse the fact he follows up with "I was not always an obedient child" very much makes it seem like it was his own fault. He continues to talk about how they both loved one another in their own ways, meaning he ran away not because he had to but because he wanted to, especially as the reasons he was "not an obedient child" could very well be because he was young and rebellious.

Y'know, it seems that we all agree on the immorality of the whole Strauss loan thing, but isn't it Dutch giving out loans and taking them back in his own way? He saved his people's lives, and from that moment on they are permanently in debt to him. And if they lost their lives repaying him? While he did mourn these people, it seems like he never feels guilt for their deaths. (Or at least doesn't show it. Let me know if there are dialogues where he expresses any guilt because maybe I've missed it.) He didn't bother looking for Arthur during Blessed Are the Peacemakers, and just gave John up in Our Best Selves. Because to him, their lives are indebted to him.
Maybe he did feel guilty when Arthur told him he gave him all he could on that mountain, but justified it with the same reason: He saved his life all those years ago, so naturally Arthur would have to repay the debt.
Anyway I'm rambling and I'm probably sounding incredibly inarticulate lol. But god Dutch van der Linde as a character is driving me insane. Gave a boy a piece of bread, and the boy spent the rest of his life being his dog. Dutch's running a way more successful loan business than Strauss this entire time.
All kinds of wonderful ideas about rdr3 being about Jack, Sadie, Charles, etc etc but I NEED it to be a prequel to rdr2. I want to see a young and wild Hosea and Dutch his househusband. I want to see twink Arthur and his young romance with Mary. I want to see Susan serving cunt. (She's already serving cunt in rdr2 but I can't stop thinking about that photo of hers.) I want to see John being a stinky little horror. It is a physical need at this point. We saw how the family fall apart, let us see how it came together in the first place.
I need a fic where a female reader steals Molly from Dutch, because imagine the DRAMA when Dutch learns that his girl got stolen, BY ANOTHER GIRL. Man's ego is about to get shattered.
