So wanted to get some hiatus rec lists going and encourage some self promo in my friends so how about sharing your top fics no matter how big or small - give us the links to your wonderful words with the Most hits/Most kudos/Most comments/Most bookmarks /Most words/Least words

I have one fic that covers all but one of these categories, so I'll do the runner up when needed!

Most Hits: you can hear it in the silence .

"the heart fic"! post 3x04 canon divergence where TK and Carlos don't get back together immediately after he wakes up. Carlos is called to the hospital as TK's emergency contact months later after the paramedic ends up in the ICU (again) with heart failure due to the effects of his lil swimmy swim. whump central.

(this is my first and most everything'd fic, lmfao)

Most Kudos: cuttin me open, healin me fine

a 4x02 missing moment where TK + Carlos discuss that mysterious third coma.

Most Comments: but i'm a mess that you wanted

Tarlos NFL/professional football AU, still a work in progress! TK ends up on the Dallas Cowboys with Carlos as his captain + quarterback, a few years after a run-in during TK's first (and only) year at UT-Austin.

Most Bookmarked: now i'm covered in you

Five times TK wore an APD hoodie and the one time Carlos wore an AFD t-shirt. My favorite fic I've ever written.

Most words: if we loved again, I swear I'd love you right

Five days after TK wakes up and the one day he goes home with Carlos.

took a week off because my life has been a hot mess but keen to get some recs going - will do a round up on sunday to give us all an extra day to consider.

911 Lone Star

SO glad I get to be first off the mark for this one.

as if you were a mythical thing - @strandnreyes

if you have never read this fic, first, go and read it. while you're there, you can see how feral i went in the comment section of it, and you'll get a sense of exactly how unhinged this fic made me. this has to be one of my favourite fics ever in the 911 LS fandom - it's got a lovely narrative, great pining and a fantastic twist. I also just really love carlos to death in this story. it's definitely a comfort read i go back to time and time again.

to the victor, the spoils - @rmd-writes

a VERY fun, very flirty, very funny fic, this one has a twist that will make you seriously question your reading comprehension skills. It has the classic RMD flavour of smut with feelings, AGCD general confusion, great OCs (edit: one in particular), humour and banter wrapped up in lovely storytelling, and it's one of those fics that will just leave a smile on your face. i love this fic dearly, and if you think i'm just saying that because rae is my ride or die then you should read it for yourself and be proven wrong. i'll happily say 'i told you so'.

Feeling like a fresh Friday flavour this week and wanted to create a reason for us to scream unhingedly like a pack of seagulls about our favourite fics/other fanworks.

I'm gonna tag a fic I read recently and tell you (briefly) why I liked it, and then you should do the same! Spread some love around <3 (also, I'm gonna cheat and do two - one for each fandom).

911 Lone Star - Yours to Keep, Yours to Lose by @iboatedhere (E)

Why: I'm a sucker for a political AU and this one hit all the right beats. The characterisation was impeccable, I loved watching TK be so obsessed with Carlos so quickly, and there were some beautiful, very real moments and conversations that absolutely hit. There was an element of 'that's the risk of love, right?' for both of them in different ways, and I love how those complemented each other.

RWRB - Crash (Inter)course by @everwitch-magiks (E)

Why: Incredible banter, loads of cute (and slightly awkward) moments, top tier smut with great communication and Alex in a crop top. What more could I possibly want? Also, I love the way Everwitch writes Alex - he's so deeply obsessed with Henry and he's pretty damn bold about it.

Running Into You

TK briefly looks up at Carlos in work mode. He loves running into Carlos on calls. It's not guaranteed, but there's something about seeing him working that makes TK feel a million things. Maybe it's because that's how they met, all those years ago out in the rain.

5 times TK and Carlos run into each other on calls as fiances

+1 time they run into each other as husbands.

1.

TK can smell the coffee as he pulls his shirt over his head. Walking toward the kitchen, he sees Carlos moving around, almost ready to leave as well. “Coffee,” Carlos says, handing a travel mug over to him. 

“Thank you,” TK replies, meeting him for a quick kiss. “You’re incredible.” 

Carlos merely shrugs in reply as he grabs his own. “You want me to drive you to work? I’ve got time.” 

Laughing, TK asks, “Are you going to turn on the lightbar and sirens?” 

As he walks by, Carlos rolls his eyes before he wraps an arm around his waist, kissing him once more. “Seriously, do you want me to?” He starts grabbing his phone and keys before turning back to TK. 

“Yes, definitely. You gonna come back and pick me up in 24 hours?” 

“Why wouldn’t I?” 

They don’t ride together all that often; their shifts don’t usually allow for it. But TK loves the times when they get to. He holds Carlos’s hand most of the way there.

WELCOME! I love when people cross over these two fandoms (I could write a literal essay on the similarities between all four of Henry, Alex, TK and Carlos - I find that most people attach Alex with TK because of their chaos demon personalities, but TK and Henry have an incredible amount of overlap, and obviously Alex and Carlos are two gorgeous Mexican Americans from Austin with skills in the kitchen and some crippling perfectionistic tendencies). Okay, I'll stop.

We call Alex and Henry "firstprince" because Alex is the First Son of the President of the United States and Henry is...a prince lol. So the combination of the first two I guess!

As for recs. YES. Please keep in mind I only just woke up, but I'll lay out some of my favourites for you.

A very incomplete list of fics:

  1. Professional Rivalry (my comfort fic) by the incredible @clottedcreamfudge and containing stunning art by @kidovna. Also, literally anything by CCF. She is the light of my life, the Henry to my Alex and the person that reminds me that sometimes I need to drink water and go to bed instead of reading 10 more fics.
  2. all that glitters (is not gold) (the post-canon fic - basically required reading) by @indomitable-love.
  3. Faster, Higher, Stronger by @everwitch-magiks (it takes a lot for me to cry in a fic, and I SOBBED (happy tears) in this one - absolute magic).
  4. after hours by @stutteringpeach (very fun, very cute, very alex).
  5. Hit (My Love) Out of the Park by bleedingballroomfloor (hot, perfect, was so good it made me care about baseball).
  6. God Save the Blessed American President Mom by zipadeea (one of the first firstprince fics I ever read and it still hits so good).
  7. to the victor, the spoils and What, like it's hard? by @rmd-writes (the lawyer AUs to end all lawyer AUs and the most delicious, sweariest Alex).
  8. Such a Burden, This Flame on My Chest by @three-drink-amy (very relevant if you like Lone Star!!! I've not actually read this one yet - jail for me - but it's on the top of by firstprince TBR! Also, everything that this gal writes is top notch so I feel very confident in recommending).
  9. Amigos y Migas by floatingaway4 (with art by @stardisnightarchive) (incredibly sweet and loads of yum food references).
  10. Hook(up), Line & Sinker by a combination of some of my favourite people in the entire fandom - @clottedcreamfudge, @indomitable-love, athousandrooms, @rmd-writes, @the-amber-fox (i read this, i loved it, then @everwitch-magiks plucked me out of the oblivion and i fell in love with all of them as well).
  11. Plies, can't you not by @the-amber-fox (i have a soft spot for this fic for well known reasons but it's also just incredibly fun and sexy).
  12. You Remind Me of Home by athousandrooms and ifyoustay (athousandrooms doesn't write often but she does, it's fire).
  13. AND A NO PRESSURE MAYBE - Luck of the Draw (by me) which is not my most popular fic, but I think it's the most fun.

“I can’t believe you don’t think Die Hard is a Christmas movie.”
“If you took Christmas out of the movie it would still be a fully functional movie,” Carlos argues and TK shakes his head as he steps over Buttercup who is splayed out on the kitchen floor looking for any scraps that might drop.
“That’s not the point,” he says, “the point is that the movie takes place on Christmas Eve--.”

2. Prepared and Shared

TK hums and presses his face further into Carlos’ chest. “Hungry,” he mumbles.
Carlos waits, still half asleep himself for TK to elaborate or move to get up, but neither happens.
He feels TK’s body go boneless in his arms as he breathes slowly and evenly against Carlos’ skin.

3. A Lack Of Color

“Okay,” Paul says loudly as he nods to a pretty woman that’s walking past and giving him the eye. “I’m just gonna…” He trails off and turns to follow her and Carlos nuzzles his nose against TK’s cheek.
“I’m glad he’s having fun,” he says into TK’s ear and TK shivers. “Do you want to have some fun?”
TK nods and lets Carlos pull him toward the dance floor.

TK is looking through the lens of his camera when he first spots him.

The picture is nothing out of the ordinary, one among thousands and thousands that he’s taken since he stepped foot onto war torn soil a year ago. In fact he’s taken ones much more powerful than this one—mid battle, on planes as soldiers dropped from the sky, towns that were devastatingly flattened.

But this specific one makes him pause.

He’s grateful he’s in an environment where he can do so. Capturing war on film means TK can never truly let his guard down, but a temporary camp filled with three separate units on allied ground feels almost as safe as it gets.

TK doesn’t need to see the printed shot to know he could make a fortune on it—the classically handsome soldier sitting perched on the border of the camp.

A thing of beauty in the middle of such destruction.

hello anon I have been anticipating this question!

as a general rule I can't promise that unfortunately. I say that because I have an amazing beta who painstakingly makes an enormous amount of edits on my draft (shout out to my terrible grammar and @rmd-writes) and it would be a lot to ask her to do 30k+ of beta-ing a week.
