Weird Cult Stuff

Hmmmm

If you’re not in a cult and you still relate to something that I talk about, it’s probably because I’m a human being with a life as complex and large as your own: cults are not the only thing in my life or my writing. I write about a lot of things- about being lgbtq+, having ptsd, having violent parents, my hobbies, my experiences as a missionary, my research, my perspective on religion, things I’ve learned in therapy, cultural immersion, cross-cultural communication, recovering from abuse, etc. etc. etc.

You don’t have to have identical experiences to mine in order to empathize with me or draw some parallels to your own experiences.

And “cult” is just a nice shorthand for the abusive group situation I grew up in, and how it’s impacted my life: it definitely doesn’t sum up all of who I am or what I’ve experienced or what I write about. 🤷‍♀️

[Standard reminder to all readers: I can in no way diagnose whatever specific group anonymous internet strangers are from with “Cult” because I have likely never studied or even interacted with those groups and also I’m a non-qualified person on the internet and also the word “cult” is complicated and not always helpful, to say the least.]
