Reminder to be kind to the writers/devs as they’re beholden to a much larger company that makes the big choices as far as what they do with the final product. Don’t forget, we almost got live-service online multiplayer DAV. They remade it from scratch, YEARS into the production just to give us what we actually wanted, a single player narrative-driven game.
Maybe Rook can't be a bloodmage and has 'good reasons to avoid it' because their blood got mixed into the ritual... and using their blood for magic would be dangerous in some kind of way.
hello! ◕‿◕ it totally sounds like Rook using blood magic would be in some way dangerous or risky, right? I like the idea that it's an unforeseen consequence somehow of disrupting the magic ritual during the prologue.. 👁️ maybe it's to do with the connection with Solas that Rook ends up having, or because the ritual was aiming to tear open the Veil? (the blood magic-Rook thing reminded me of how Solas mentions in DA:I that use of blood magic makes entering the Fade more difficult.) or maybe it's to do with things Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain have been up to?

CM Katey: "Can mage Rook do blood magic? Will blood magic be a skill tree separate from regular magic?" Corinne Busche: "Okay. Um, this gets a little spoilery, so let me just say, Rook has some pretty good reasons to avoid blood magic. Rook is not gonna want to be interested in that."
thought too hard about vhenan meaning heart but coming from the word home. 7 dead 32 injured.
I've always thought about 'vhen' as 'soul.'
El-vhen, maybe "same soul."
Vhen-an, "place of soul" — where one's soul dwells.
Vhen-as, "home" — where one's soul... rests?
Anyway vhen is my absolute fave, I could chew on Elvish for days and days and days, it breaks my heart every time I try
I was playing The Descent this week and this banter with Renn popped up about one of his soldiers falling down the Deep Roads. She told the other legionnaires about some strange stuff she saw while lost, like...
"A golden longboat, floating in the air."
And I thought: "Wait, haven't we seen this recently?"
We have indeed.
Did this soldier had a glimpse of the Caretaker? Did she stumble into the Crossroads? Since we still don't know who the Caretaker is or how their boat works, I'm not sure - it could be something simply from the Fade, not just the Crossroads section.
To be honest, I can't make sense of the other stuff. Hairless children hunting nugs and the skeleton on the throne? That last one gives me Black City vibes, but who knows.
Renn later tells us that the soldier, after going to sleep, forgets everything. So kind of suspicious all around. I am no theorycrafter myself, and this might have been brought up before by more knowledgeable fans, but just found it curious! Especially now we have all those magic + Stone + dwarves connections.
so i think solas's lyrium dagger is the same "blade that would end the war" from merrill's fen'harel story in da2 btw
and sam winchester voice get this. we know the dagger was extracted from da2's red lyrium idol right. and likely purified during the ritual discussed in tevinter nights. which is interesting because "a glowing blue blade that has the capacity to resist or possibly even cure the blight"?? sounded incredibly familiar to me :) so with that i would like to also point out the similarities btwn solas's dagger and the sword maric theirin found in the deep roads from david gaider's 2009 tie-in novel the calling. lol
also worth noting that he and fiona banged shortly after he found this sword, and later, after the birth of alistair, she found out she had been effectively cured of the taint and had somehow reversed the calling. the only grey warden ever recorded to have done so.
Has anyone speculated that Rook is called Rook because Leliana might have recruited them and/or sent them to Varric?
Reasons:
- her alias as Sister Nightingale (bird codename already existing)
- the fact that she is in the Rookery in Skyhold despite rookery meaning only "nest for rooks" (according to Google) and not, as I thought, "tower full of corvids"
- her current/former existence as spymaster? I mean, even as Divine, that's what I imagine she's doing in my worldstate lmao
- it was Leliana that said to any Solasmancing Lavellan that she would start looking for Solas immediately after Corypheus' defeat
- Leliana, regardless of whether she is Divine, is in the post-Trespasser cutscene about recruiting someone new to help in the hunt for Solas — maybe she still wants him found and is still working to that end!
See also: their hoods. Both the same muted purple.
Please, where are my Leliana-recruited-Rook truthers, I'm so soft, I want Leliana to help as much as Varric but from a much more cautious distance, send help
