map showing the way europe played 5d ping pong with its words for vampires. had to do my own damn map of this so i thought i'd share it cause why not
some words of explanation:
my sources:
it is also still simplified a lot as i omitted other words in other languages about similar phenomena, like the romanian moroi and vârcolac (which is also related to vukodlak, wilkołak etc), the other greek type of "vampire" that was the tympaniaioi and a lot of polish regional variants that i know of like łopi, upierz etc etc
bisexuality
I huave an idea guys
I've known about this
While i cannot justify drinking blood as an optimal form of sustenance, if i had to create a biological grounding for the immortality and regenerative ability of vampires it would be a fuck ton of cancer repressor pathways in their cells. A lot of aging is linked to the degradation of telomeres (the ends of your chromosomes), which is accelerated by cell division, which in turn is greatly slowed by the same pathways that inhibit cancer development. These pathways could be mass inhibited to initiate rapid regeneration in response to injury, at the increased risk of cancerous mutations accumulating to the point of tumors.
All this to say vampires are the optimal military force for operations in irradiated environments in terms of general survival, and combat against large forces of vampires would benefit from strategic use of radiological weapons to inhibit their healing, or rapidly induce cancer depending on if radiation resistance or regeneration has priority in individual cells.
I'm drawing a map today and it made me think I should share some of my older ones. I made this map for a dark fantasy dnd game about vampires.
my VtM vampires in a lineup <3
vampires have been drinking human blood for centuries they don't give a fuck about guys on eight different antidepressants. they were sucking on asbestos factory workers
The absolutely hilarity of imagining some older vampires hectoring younger ones. “Back in my day, I had to drink blood with radium in it and I liked it! We glowed in the damn dark for weeks!”
Vampires today aren’t as bloodthirsty as they were centuries ago because the average modern human provides more nourishment than 5 sickly Victorian chimney sweepers combined. Woman who eats 3 square meals a day with dessert: are you okay? The vampire who bit her:
when ur trying to run errands for the Prince but ur malk buddy is always sayin something

My favorite little character trait so far in Castlevania Nocturne is Olrox's possessiveness.
Once he marks something as his, it's his whether he even realizes it or not.
We are told, straight up by him, that he turned his lover into a vampire without his partner's say-so. Lenore mentioned the nature of Vampires—the ever-present hunger. This burning desire to grow and consume, consequences be damned. We see this in Erzsebet's obsessive need to become the ruler of all things in existence, so much so that she has fashioned herself as the Messiah. We see this compulsive gluttony in Carmilla and her all-consuming greed; she simply must have it all, because no one else is deserving of the world.
We see it in Godbrand's animalistic, sadistic tendencies when hunting his prey. Chō's demented need to make every kill, every transformation a perverse performance of her monstrous skill.
We definitely see it in Dracula. His anger and wrath, razing kingdoms and laying waste to societies.
There is a gaping maw seemingly inherent in all those turned into Vampires. Humanity's flaws taken to their most extreme conclusions once the Vampiric venom drips through.
Olrox is possessive beyond belief. What is his is his.
He claims he doesn't love Mizrak, but risks exposing himself to Drolta and Erzsebet the second Mizrak's life is in danger.
He cannot let go, just like Vlad. He must get even. With Olrox, at least this thirst for vengeance is balanced by his adherence to what he views as justice, which means he isn't the type to initiate a war in the name of his beloved. Olrox is "An Eye for an Eye" adherent.
It's something that truly intrigues me, because every single named Vampire exhibits this endless hunger.
Even Death, who is considered a type of vampire itself.
Alucard, I think, is free (or at least more in control) because of Lisa's own human nature—the ability to feel satisfaction, as well as her nurturing light. This is only developed further because of Trevor, Sypha and Greta.
Which begs the question: what is Tera's hunger? What is that idea or feeling that'll hook its fangs into her skin and drive her into reckless abandon?
Love for Maria and Richter? The feelings of betrayal against the Abbott? Her hatred of Erzsebet for the murder of her sister?
Another fucking reason why I need SEASON 2 NOW GOD FUCK NETFLIX STOP RENEWING EMILY IN PARIS YOU WACKOS.
Dracula and Nosferatu carpooling.
Don't trust vampires, elves, or anyone older than a century. They could make up all kinds of bullshit about the past. And the only way to fact check them is by digging up records from that time period. Which are of dubious authenticity because the same semi-immortals could have written all of it in an act of foresight to cement the legitimacy of their claims in the future.
I'm finished!!
this is how i personally see/draw the fruit flies
I LOVE THEM SM
WHO WANTS TO HEAR MY VAMPIRISM HIERARCHY FOR MY VAMPIRE FANTASY SETTING??? (Spoiler I’m telling you anyway)
First I’ll start with some introductory lore about how the vampires came to be.
There are two major gods important to the birth if vampire kind, Famine and The Feast. The Feast was worshiped by humanity and had a major temple from which it received gifts. The god constantly demanded tributes (of food and drink) from the people but kept locked in it’s temple, allowing Famine to ravage the world.
In rebellion a few of The Feast’s worshipers and priests supplied the god wine poisoned with fruit from a diseased harvest and it became weary and slept. The starving disciples consumed the flesh and blood of the unconscious god and became the first vampires.
Now the hierarchy.
Princes: Gender neutral term for the first vampires from whom all vampiric bloodlines began. Every vampire is a descendent of a prince and will usually inherit mutations from their bloodline. They have the largest quantity of divine blood so their forms can be rather monstrous.
Lords: Vampires who have developed unique mutations not seen in their bloodline which allows them to control large covens/legions of lesser vampires.
Masters: Older vampires who have become powerful with age and are able to sire healthy vampires rather than creating ghouls. They have some control over their immediate decedents but sire them in fewer numbers than other types or vampires. Their families are often called nests.
Un ranked: Basic garden variety vampires with only the abilities and appearances common to their bloodline. Mostly humanoid.
Ghouls: Created when a young, heavily mutated, or weakened vampire tries to turn someone. They are completely feral, existing only to feed and do not posses minds of their own. Masters will often command their fledglings to create ghouls to defend nests and increase numbers.
Beasts: There are three common types of beast.
Mutants, unrecognizable as once human and unresponsive to commands from higher ranking vampires. They are known for their great strength.
Grims, vampires that have been starved in their graves. Newly blooded fledglings may appear dead and can end up buried in churchyards, if their sire fails to dig them back up they will become feral yet unresponsive to commands once they’ve clawed themselves out of the ground.
Droves, large abandoned nests that have cannibalized themselves and become a single large cancerous beast with its own sentience. To be officially considered a drove it must be able to sire vampires that are exact replications of itself.
Bibulus, the lowliest of vampires. This is not a rank or title, in fact it is a singular vampire regarded as particularly pathetic. Bibulus is so mutated that the poor creature lacks a mouth or any means to consume blood. It is cursed to tear its own flesh in order to absorb blood through the wound but as Bibulus feeds it also sustains massive bloodless. Vampires have a natural healing factor so the poor fucker is constantly ripping itself open, both endlessly consuming blood and starving itself. One of the vampire princes keeps the beast so that him and his guests may drink from its ever recycled blood (as it has an intoxicating effect of other vampires).
Vampires in dnd are lawful evil and vampires in traditional lore cannot cross into a home without being invited in so if you mix the two together you get debt collectors send tweet
