Socially Awkward Ork

@wealmostaneckbeard

Every day or half hour I suddenly wonder if Tumblr has content on a specific subject. I then seach and reblog that content for 10 or more minutes. That is how I function on here. Occasionally I will try posting "Original Content" but there's no guarantee.

Opening Thursday, September 29th, 2022 at Talon Gallery in Portland, Oregon is artist Scott Listfield’s extraordinary solo exhibition, “The Lost World.”

Of the exhibition, Scott writes:

My name is Scott Listfield. I paint astronauts and, sometimes, dinosaurs. That’s been the opening line of my artist statement since I first started painting astronauts, a long time ago now. In more recent years, some internet person will occasionally pop up to comment “Hey! What ever happened to the ‘sometimes dinosaurs’?” Well, random internet person, this next show is for you.

I’ve found myself thinking about dinosaurs lately. I’ve been watching, over and over again, the incredible new documentary series Prehistoric Planet, on Apple TV, narrated by David Attenborough. I’ve also been thinking, not for the first time, about dinosaurs as a metaphor, during a time when we seem increasingly driven to follow in their large footsteps towards extinction. And during a time when certain political factions seem intent on sending us back in time to the stone age. I want to remember a simpler time in my life, when I could sit and draw dinosaurs for hours and then go dig a large hole in my backyard because I thought maybe there might be a Stegosaurus down there somewhere (there wasn’t). And so I made an entire show of dinosaur paintings.

Mongolians are cool because they’ve merged their traditional and modern ways of life so rather than having poverty due to losing all their important skills they just live in their yurts with their cows and 827474874mbs internet

sure their GDP in dollars is low but when you can survive like your anscestors did it doesn’t mean anything, nothing wrong with adding a motorcycle and wifi into the mix

Everyone should live like their ancestors did 1000 years ago but with the addition of wifi tbh

Adapt. Survive.

this is the single most inspiring piece of information I have yet to come across in all my moments in this world

where is that picture

ah here we go:

HELP i bought the Fuck You Baltimore print and forgot i’d sandwiched it between some things to flatten it out before putting it up, and my apartment flooded over the holidays due to cold weather so it got moldy despite airing things out. My renter’s insurance lets me submit photos of damaged things for reimbursement, but like… How do I explain this to the claims adjuster 🥲

(it actually looks super cool like this, that mold just looks… dangerous)

  • "how hurt are you" "on a scale of one to twenty-eight i'd say i'm at about a nine."

The burning question about "homesteading tradwive influencer vs. actual medieval farmwife" wouldn't be about who would win, but what would be the final straw that would make Kathrynn - who got married at 21, doesn't know what a chemical is, and who would have sent her children to school if she had had the chance - finally decide to beat the ever-loving shit out of Kathrynn, who got married at 21, doesn't understand what a chemical is and can't spell for shit, but still thinks she can homeschool her kids.

It wouldn't be over feminist issues. Medieval Kathrynn has no concept of "women's right to vote" - it's not like her husband has the right to vote in government matters either. It would probably be about religion. Medieval Kathrynn has no idea what "catholism" is, but she heard Modern Kathrynn talk shit about the saints and decides to toss aside the goat she was castrating and go "that's it, I'm beating your ass."

I'm pretty sure it would be vaccination, actually. Medieval Kathrynn would find out that there's an easy, safe way to keep the babies from dying of measles/mumps/smallpox and that Modern Kathrynn is CHOOSING TO NOT DO IT and would use the grave marker of her third child who passed from the pox as a bludgeon.

Enriched uranium sword with a lead sheathe that is rumored to slowly kill its owner in exchange for god killing power.

League of knights with similar blades all sheathe their weapons in the mechanisms of a dilapidated castle, their power bringing arcane mechanisms to life and unearthing secrets long buried and lost.

Two selfish combatants duel with these cursed blades, their final mighty clash laying waste to both warriors and their surroundings in an apocalyptic storm of divine fire that sees the land poisoned and cursed by the gods for decades.

“Because in a finicky, annoying, touchscreen world of hyperconnected people using phones they have no control over or understanding of, I wanted something that would be entirely mine, personal, and absolutely tactile, while also giving me an excuse for not texting….”

This is actually really cool because the creator made it to be as fully functional as possible without a touchscreen. It stores numbers and can receive messages that are displayed on ePaper on the back that curves over the top to display important messages like last missed call. It has a dedicated button for him to call his husband. He says he plans on using this as his main phone.

Check out the second link in op to read a about his process and design.

Huge huge fan of anachronistic interactions in my writing ideas. Using modern firearms to fight mythical monsters, using swords and shields to fight killer robots, powering computers with coal or gasoline, using a nuclear reactor to power a clockwork automata, space suits that look like diving apparatus from the 1800s, modern skyscrapers in the middle of stone and straw villages, using MRI machines to determine where you need a hole drilled in your head to let the ghosts out, killer AI being banishable by holy rituals that have unknowingly incorporated override codes, do you understand yet???

A photo of the hyper evolved velociraptor, Beatrice Quill back from her extended stay off world. she works as a professor of dinosaur behavioral science at the National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C. Since her tenure she has revolutionized mankind’s understanding of the prehistoric world while also keeping the museums rodent population under control.
