sometimes I instinctively like people without knowing why, until I start talking to them and they reveal that all they watch on youtube are long deconstructions of public transit systems, and that by the way their shirt is an abstract design representing their favourite subway line, and then it's like ohhhh........autism ant pheromones at it again. like finds like.
yo why is it that like 99% of the time that "bees" are mentioned, the convo automatically goes to honeybees? other bees exist and are way cuter tbh? (also honeybees are fucking FINE do not even start. it's the native and solitary bees we need to worry about)
we got the blue sage bee, looking like it just did a few lines
we got the.. pantaloon bee. lol..
long-horn bees!! they come in other flavors and all have insanely prominent antennae (compensating?)
my friends Walsh's Digger Bee, a fun little friend that comes in WHITE!
orchid bees, which are most common in green but can also be found in blue, red, gold, and even PURPLE! there was a pretty picture with most of them together but the website didn't allow linking, so RIP
the hairy footed flower bee!! they look so funny from above. also look at this one
it's just having a little sit..
a white-tailed bumblebee which is coincidentally my fursona's species 💖
anyway go enjoy some bees. and feel free to add more bee pictures, i can never have enough bees 🐝

I hope none of you disappear in the coming days. Seriously don't do anything that can't be undone.
I know i'm just a random person you follow online but I mean it. People (all kinds of marginalised people too!) Have survived all types of horrible times and managed to find happiness eventually. If for no one else, survive for them. And also, try to survive because the people making you despair don't want you to live. Don't give this to them. Don't give your life. The best thing you can do is cling to it with everything you've got. Lay in bed for a day if you have to. but please promise you won't hurt yourself.
Take screen breaks, (now more than ever!!) Meet up, Call your friends, call your family if you're on good terms. Spend time with pets. Text your favourite mutual you never speak to if you've got no one irl. Hell, log on a minecraft server if nothing else. Or rewatch your favourite show.
Make sure you eat enough and sleep enough, and take the meds and vitamins that you need. Don't believe anything you think if you're hungry and tired and have been scrolling too long.
Get a therapy appointment if you think you need it.
You can absolutely not take any shortcuts when it comes to your wellbeing right now.

The amount of red on the belly of a red-bellied woodpecker is nothing short of lacking if not laughable
Agreed, would have gladly called it the red-hooded woodpecker and it might have worked better...
What's the general opinion on the yellow-bellied sapsucker? In french, the name is translated to maculated woodpecker/spotted woodpecker, and you lose the unique serial-drilling they do to feed on tree sap with that name...
scars in fiction: I got this trying to save my lover from an assassin- but tragically, I was too late. now I carry the mark of my failure with me always, and I can never forget~
scars in real life: so I was trying to open macaroni sauce with a paring knife
Tell me how you got your scars in the tags
Project to build cliff swallow nestboxes for one of the biggest colonies in the Gaspésie region of Québec! Fundraiser site is in french, but figured I'd still pass the word along: https://laruchequebec.com/fr/projets/protegeons-la-colonie-dhirondelles-a-front-blanc-du-barachois-de-malbaie-en-gaspesie
I'll add that cliff swallows will often nest along with other swallow species so nesting sites might help those too (tree swallows, bank swallows, etc.), they provide an important service by eating a LOT of flying insects such as mosquitos and flies, and they're cute little guys too!
Do you happen to have any cool knowledge or pictures or really anything about the Purple Finch (Haemorhous purpureus)? I found out about them recently and i am IN LOVE
Purple Finches:
I don't have a lot of interesting facts about them. They are often mistaken for House Finches, which they resemble, but they aren't very urban, preferring to nest in coniferous forests or mixed hardwood coniferous forests.
"Adult male Purple Finches have a reddish streaked back with more red on the face and neck than adult male House Finches, which have brown streaking on the back and some brown on the face."
Here's a post I made about their name a while back...

Ooh I got something! Did you know both the house finch and purple finch sometimes come in yellow or orange?
The red pigments in birds are often due to their diet - such as the lovely pinks in flamingos. If they get less access to carotenoids from berries, they might lose the bright red color and go yellow like this fellow here! Or at least that's one theory... according to David Sibley (yes, from the Sibley guides) it can happen from hormonal causes as well. That is, a male with weak testosterone or a female with strong testosterone would show streaking and yellow feathers on the head and back. Article:
Such may very well be the case for this bird:
Female purple finches lack the red coloration, they're stripey brown and white birds. This one MIGHT be a male or a female with hormonal something or other going on!
Here's another funky yellow purple finch, this one also had piebaldism according to the person who took the photo:
This one looks like an actual genetic mutation, though I'm no expert in the matter. Like albinism or leucism that suppress melanin (black) pigments in other animals, there are other mutations that can block certain pigment production or create an overabundance of them. The term for a bird producing more yellow pigments is xanthochromatism. Source: https://laura-mountainspring.pixels.com/featured/yellow-and-orange-purple-finch-laura-mountainspring.html
I don't ONLY draw birds, just sketching to practice and get some weird things out of my head
*one* of Audobon's unidentified birds? I remember hearing something about him hoaxing a new fish species to get back at another naturalist he had a rivalry with, but not about this
several of the birds from birds of america are unidentified today. In order, Cuvier's Kinglet, the Carbonated Warbler, the Small-headed Flycatcher, the Blue Mountain Warbler, Bartram's Vireo, and Townsend's Bunting:
interestingly someone photographed a bird near identical to Townsend's Bunting a few years ago; a dickcissel with weird colors:
a big win for cryptidzoology
Curious to see if any of these may also be weird hybrids, some of the parulidae warblers gang do make funny kids together sometimes. The carbonated warbler looks like a cape may without the orange cheeks? And Bantram's vireo up there looks kind of like a worm-eating warbler with faded eyeliner
I'm supposed to be painting ducks (canadian swallowtail, acrylics on canvasboard)

Terratopia: March of The Demon King is a narrative heavy puzzle game; a Choose Your Own Adventure with a rogue-like twist.
My friend has been working hard on making a new Playdate game. I’ve been doing the art and my partner the music/sfx. It would mean a lot if people could check it out!
