Also, I genuinely don’t think it’s out of character for Tim. He will protect Lucy no matter what, even though he knows she can protect herself. You can see this when they argue at Angela’s, that he knows, but he can’t just let go.
Go back and see the DOD episodes and after, see how Tim reacts to Lucy, during and after the whole arc, and see how he blames himself for the whole thing with Caleb. So much so he forces himself out of the narrative that is Lucy’s personal life. Even though Angela and Lucy call him out on this, Tim still blames himself.
I think this is the same situation/a parallel with what happened with Ray. Tim probs believe that bc Lucy is involved with him that Ray’s showing up at Lucy’s and almost attacking her and Tamara was his fault. And after arresting Ray, when they actually caught him, it felt as though the situation was far from over.
Not saying what he did was okay but it’s not out of character.

He’s always working. He genuinely loves his job, so him being randomly off for a couple of days out of nowhere IS something to be worried about imo. Specially if he’s MIA from his gf

I’ve just remembered that Tim actually has money?!! He and his sister (whose name I forget) did up and sold for a good sum their childhood home. I wonder if that will come back… perhaps when he and Lucy decide to get a house together??
Yep! Tim was hoping that he and Genny would get around half a million dollars each (per 5.02). I don't remember if the final sum was ever revealed but, still, that gives us a general idea.
Maybe it will be mentioned in passing when he and Lucy decide to buy a house together. And let's not forget that he probably owns his current house too, so he could get some more money by selling it (that is, if Kojo hasn't destroyed it in revenge for being left behind).
