It shouldn’t be surprising that writers have some of the best strike signs in existence
Hi, Mike!! I’ve been wondering for a while if you’ve listened to the horror podcast/audiodrama The Magnus Archives? What do you think about it? 👀
LOOOOOOOVE the Magnus Archives. Excellent horror fiction podcast.
do u read fanfics of ur works or just in general
Okay I've heard a lot about these fanfics but I haven't really explored them yet - where is the best place to go? I heard some of them can get a little... um... well let's just say I've heard some things lol
I am honestly very curious. Recommendations welcome!
@flanaganfilm Hi Mike!! You might want to check out our biggest digital library to date! The Archive of Our Own or most commonly known as ao3 in fandom circles.
I won’t claim it to be perfect but GD their tagging and filtering system is one of the GREATEST. Ever. I’ve been thoroughly spoiled tbh 🤣
You can sort it by the latest updated fics, to the most hits (have the most viewership), the most kudos (most Likes basically), most wordcount (lmfao be prepared to see some lengthy novellas there),to most comments, to have the most Bookmarks (my preference tbh since that usually means it’s so good readers keep coming back to read it again!), etc etc.
Then you can filter it further by what category or tags you want to Include and/or Exclude!
You find smutty works especially with Non-Consensual content— icky or triggering, you can filter it out! You want to see Crossovers between certain show/book/movie together just type it in the little search bar there! You’re afraid to find a particularly good read leaving you in a cliffhanger because it hasn’t been updated is in 5 years? Filter them out by reading Completed works only. (*mutters* Cowards. (Jkjk ✌🏼🤣))
Anyways, have fun exploring!!
As a treat, here is a filtered newbie-friendly works from yours truly of the Star Wars Fanfiction Archived. Arranged by Most Bookmarked coz This Is The Way. 😌
It's almost three months and still I can't get Midnight Mass out of my head.
And I have more questions the more details I noticed. Right now, what I'm interested about is the Nosferatu lore and how much rl-mythical lore did Mike Flanagan incorporate with the "Angel".
Angel got all the basic Vampire characteristics of course, immortality and blood consumption. But I'm wondering, do they need permission to get inside people's homes?
I have watched this show multiple times already and never have I seen the Nosferatu enter people's houses. It either feeds outside or lures its victims to their newfound lair to feed.
The three instances where we see Angel outright attack someone in a building was when Bill "Bowl" was lured into its lair, when Riley interrupted its blood-letting for Pruitt by entering unannounced in the rec center, and when Mildred shot the priest in the head (what a queen) in the Church where it's technically John's "territory" so to speak so Angel already got permission. (More than a permission even-)
#PeakBlasphemy
So, 1.) John managed to convince it somehow not to outright attack the Crockett residents because they're gonna be transformed soon enough as Newborns (no need to bring doubt or terrify their future vampire babies till they're "ready") and only got a sort of leeway in the sense that "technically" Angel didn't really make the first move or attack anyone!
They "intruded" first! And it had to "defend" its home and John. (It's main focus and function is to Feed above all else but it also seems capable of higher intelligence -like imitating speech, understanding the need to blend in, and punishing(?)/manipulating John in what seems to be... just for the heck of it)
Or 2.) It can't enter any occupied house without permission first. Hence, the late night stalking and luring its victims- unless it trespassed on its space first then it's a free for all.
@dendrocnide-moroides Oh, that’s ok! Hmm. 🤔 It can be an extension of my prev theory. The “Angel” might see the entire island as his territory now since majority- or at least enough people, gave him permission to enter, and with the Crocket churchgoers sacrificing themselves to It sealed the deal and gave it enough power to not need those pesky permissions to enter anymore.
Or as the newborn vamps being an extension of Itself the Vampire can go in and out of places where Its Children already have the tacit permission to enter.
(They have an incredibly low population. Most of them probably visited each other’s houses at one point. Well, most likely, except the Sheriff’s.
(Can you then imagine the sheer irony if the Sheriff’s place was the safest one they had because nobody visited and therefore no one, not any vampire got the permission to Enter making it an essential sanctuary in times of nosterafu crisis cause our man wasn’t converted. I- ajsjsjkekskdk that’d be such a fun concept to play with))
But we also have a somewhat ambiguous textual event where he asked Sarah if could come in, so the second thread might be the weaker theory there.

The second announcement for the Fall of the House Usher literally did not make me sleep till 4:20 in the morning because of the freakin HYPE✨
Like, remember the one who gave us the most despicable yet frighteningly realistic villain of Bev Keane and the one who's heart-wrenching Hannah Grose performance from Bly captured our hearts and freakin shattered it in one episode it left us sobbing messily on our couch?
Yeah, they're gonna be back.
And do you remember that one NB-eminence who gave us Sweet punny- and who was also one very vivid and intense hallucination, Owen from Bly to hardened and Tired yet still a dependable action hero on a crisis Sheriff and the Bi-Queen of Delivering Epic Monologues and A Master of every freakin scenes she's in?
YES THEYRE GONNA BE FUCKING BACK
Speaking of, I'm also very glad to have MORE NB-rep in the future. Check the fuck out-
And like- there's so much more BUT the most important thing is the Flanaverse keeps getting bigger and bigger AND EVEN MORE EPIC HOLY HELL! (And I STILL cannot get over Mark Hamill joining btw) IM
And, just there's so much more so just click this entire thread and just- get hyped cause once again I have a feeling the Flanafam's gonna give us one heck of a ride.
Just-
For iZombie fans!! An incredible reunion!!💜
And this one gave me second-hand fangirlism

Thinking of Bev Keane while listening to this:
✨Remember, we are dust. And to dust we shall return.✨

Hi sorry to bother you, I just wanted to say something that's been on my mind after watching midnight mass. So you know that final seen as the sun rises? My favourite part is the contrast between Bev and Ali. Bev's final moments are spent furiously digging downwards for protection (ironic, since that's where Hell is often positioned) while she burns like the damned. Meanwhile, Ali faithfully prays towards the east, towards the rising sun, and as he burns he looks like something holy. In fact, have you ever seen what a halo looks like in Islamic art?
I don't know if it was on purpose, but I like to imagine it was and Mike Flanagan knew about this when he portrayed that seen like he did.
I-I thank you so much for sharing this!! 😭👌(It's no bother at all!!)
Seriously, after I've watched this show I finally realized how much I don't know about other religions. It's one of those things where objectively I know I don't know but it didn't really sink in until I watched this show.
The entire premise and execution was so moving and I love how some Muslim people stepped forward and share tidbits about their culture that relates to this show and I appreciate it so much.
I didn't know anything at all but I've encountered info like Hassan not picking any food during the CrackPot festival cause it's not halal, or the Sherrif being the imam that usually lead the prayers but by the end it was Ali, and them praying Fajr- and now this- just...
Thank you, thanks for sharing this. I know more (and I should know more) now than I ever did before.
You're absolutely right with the parallels too. Hassan and Ali faced their end with dignity and grace. She did not. And you know, it's safe to think that Mike probably did it on purpose. 😊💜💜
midnight mass but there's less endless pretentious monologues and less endless bible quotations and mass services that make me feel like when I was 10 and I used to imagine the church burning down (v cathartic to see the church actually burn down btw) so I wouldn't have to got to mass on Sundays anymore and less characters and more exploration of the really cool interesting dynamics between the characters and their stories and more rahul kohli
OP is valid so don't keep these in the tags!! They're rlly good points!👌💜
I rlly agree with most of these, liks w/ the last survivor bit- I mean Leeza I understand coz she's one hell of a Girlboss character and the only redemption thing of the Scarboroughs lbr, but I hope Warren got his own arc too- I spotted it. V subtly put like- clearly pressured by his brother's mistakes and a "2nd chance" for the Flynn parents to "get it right" this time I genuinely feel sorry for him but also- outside of his relations and the closeted urge to let loose, and his love for Leeza (MAD RESPECT FOR THE FLYNNS IMPECCABLE TASTE IN PARTNERS), idk him well- ig we do know him, but its so subtle and distant he feels like a faraway character.
I hope we get to know him- maybe not as much as Riley, but know enough about their relationships w/ each other to really care for him and his parents just as Riley did esp since he took enough time to make a letter for his baby bro.
Same for the rest of the teens esp for Ali- our final and ultimate world savior at the end. Once again, I get his struggle (we were all teenagers once after all) but besides the alienation, he felt from his newfound community and even from his dad rip, I wish we could've seen him and Hassan communicate with each other without the religious conflict. And see their grief. Coz they're both clearly grieving for Mrs. Shabazz and I hope we get to see that and more of their dynamic onscreen.
Like what's their banter?? Where's the domesticity?? Like I've seen the Flynns communicate via religion like that's a perfectly normal conversation to be had every mealtime. WHERES THE SHABAZZ FAMILY DYNAMIC!! Where's sexy Sheriff in an apron licking a spoon??!! /hj
Also, the Hassan/Erin/Sarah dynamic. Like those three are LITERALLY fire-forged friends in the end. No one can convince me.
Basically, the characters are all greatly established- I just yearn for more relationship developments among them.
This vid has completely obliterated me just as much as the show did, ending up in tears late in the evening.
It was impactful, relatable, and SO understanding of the core themes of the show- I am SO glad to have watched this 💜,but also heed the warnings.
It really touched on some heavy subjects, but the analysis is so, so good and relevant, and incredibly profound.
Man, today was fun 😹🦁
Will post pics on Halloween's eve :3 (timezones nani?) Here's some sneak peek tho (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
Get people in your life who will look at you like they do at Mike Flanagan 😌👌✨
After researching more about Mike Flanagan following the release of Midnight Mass, I believe he is planning an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’! This could just be speculation, but I’m very excited to see what he comes up with next!
Oh, yes!! He confirmed it! Very excited too. And he'll also adapt the book Midnight Club by Christopher Pike as well.
