Bonsoir! ✨Call me Watcher. I belong in multifandoms. I sob over fictional characters as a form of catharsis. No, you're not allowed to judge.

Death Note AU where hbomberguy makes a five hour long video about youtuber Light Yagami that's initially completely unrelated to the murders (Light would probably plagiarize or have really unhinged right-wing political takes if he was on youtube)

but halfway through he reveals that while researching he stumbled upon evidence that Light might be behind the Kira murders, and then spends like fourty minutes explaining the concept of a shinigami, an hour explaining how he thinks Light used one to commit murders, and then another hour explaining Light's ideology and why the concept of criminals being inherently evil is flawed

He finishes the video by addressing Light directly and telling him that he (Hbomberguy) had his name legally changed before uploading the video, to something that only he knows, making it impossible for Light to kill him

THIS IS BLATANTLY UNTRUE.

Yagami Light may be a republican mysoginistic pro-cop, pro-genocide misanthropist with a god complex and whatever right-winger labels under the umbrella of murder and tyranny at his core.

But I VEHEMENTLY protest him being branded as a *spits* plagiarist.

Such blatant character assassination.

Light didn’t ace all his academics and became Japan’s top nerd student of the decade just to be labeled as a freakin plagiarist.

He’d throw all his perfectly organized 300+ sources and references with the fury of a hardcore academic perfectionist in ya face. He’ll skip a defamation lawsuit and go straight to sacrificing half of somebody else’s life span just to get ya full name.

This premise is absolutely false, flawed and faulty.

Can't Fuck Bracket - Group Stage. Group 9: Death Note Characters

Light Yagami versus L Lawliet

[ID: The unfuckable pride flag overlaid with the "no bitches" meme. Over it are pictures of the contestants. Light is a pale Japanese man with brown hair, shown with an exaggerated grimace; L is a white man with huge eyebags, shown pulling his own lip. Over them are sparkles and a heart with a butt, and in between them are peach emojis crossed out with the word "vs" in them. End ID]

Propaganda:

Light Yagami: "Man is too up his own ass for anyone else to be." / "everyone wants to be his bitch but hes gay and obsessed with the second worst guy ever (light himself is the first worst guy) women are THROWING themselves at him but he just doesnt care if he saw a vagina he would kill himself immediately and he hasnt seen a single dick in his life either not even his own"

L Lawliet: "i dont think i need to explain myself on this one lol" / "I'm not even gonna mention the eyebags awful posture and general weirdo behavior because we all know those are sexyman traits. He is just chronically unpleasant and canonically pro-torture and just. A massive loser. I'm not convinced he ever made HIMSELF cum, much less another person"

Headcanon that light used to resent/be jealous of Sayu when he was younger for the fact that their parents held her to far lower standards than him (both because of him having been proving his “genius” since he was super young and because of both of them having an unspoken mysoginistic worldview). He enjoyed being viewed/admired as the “golden son”, but he also felt like it was somewhat unfair that there was so much more pressure upon him. He got upset whenever he saw her slacking off and acting immaturely and not really being chastised for it. He never talked about it tho, and over time his feelings changed to a mix of protective affection and lowkey mysoginistic condescension (she’s a girl, she can’t help it if she’s weaker. She’s a nice girl tho and I do love her, so I’ll put her in the “purity pure girls who should be protected” mental box so I can retain some respect towards her). Plus he really grows to like/depend upon the admiration and praise of everyone around him, and she definitely admires him, while also being one of the very few people he actually has an emotional connection to, so he really grows to enjoy being around her and to crave her admiration. Not that he’s very self-aware about any of this.

you know who we don’t talk about enough in this fandom? sachiko yagami. i want to see more of her.

i want to see what light is afraid to in her eyes. i want to see the love/wrath/knowledge of a mother.

i want to see the fear in her eyes when she realizes there is Something Wrong. is it when light is a consummate killer, soaked in the blood of the unworthy? or is it when he is in fifth grade and comes home with his mask on crooked, laughs just a little too loudly when he gives her the account of his day which she hadn’t until then realized was pre-prepared?

i want to see her realize that her son is walking down dark paths that she just narrowly avoided when she was his age (because let’s be honest, he got it from somewhere, and it sure as hell wasn’t Soichirou Straitlaced). she watches him withdraw into himself and knows she can’t help, that he can’t see anything but his own pain right now and any offered helping hand would just alienate him that much more.

i want to see her trying to talk to her husband, and soichirou steadfastly ignoring her with a litany of “he’s a good kid”s and “light’s doing fine”s. i want to see her subtly trying to push soichirou to give light what he so desperately needs: paternal validation for something other than the perfect surface. but light is very good, better even than his mother, and soichirou never realizes that there is anything about their son that he doesn’t know, let alone does anything about it.

i want to see her sitting down to tea with misa amane and not knowing what to do with this poor, pretty, infatuated girl who is so far the opposite of what light needs that she can see the downward spiral as though it had already happened. i want to see her despair when misa becomes the first of many.

i want to see a young sachiko, just out of childhood and in love with a boy a few years older. in love with his steadfastness and his righteousness and his honesty. i want to see sachiko immersing herself in being a wife and mother because it brings her a little closer to what she Should Be, to the ideal of womanhood, to the truth in the lies she’d been living for years.

i want to see sachiko’s disappointment when their first child took so after her, her joy when the second took after her husband.

i want to see sachiko older, lined with grief and trial, guiding her daughter around like a child again, the only thing she has left of a fragmented life. i want to see her slowly, painfully nursing sayu back to health, knowing that none of their family will ever have the normality that soichirou so valued.

i want to see the quiet resignation, but somehow not surprise, in sachiko’s face when matsuda, who has had one too many margaritas, finally confesses who kira really was.

i want to see sachiko sitting in front of soichirou’s grave and gritting out a bitter i told you so.

I liked the movie, tbh. Some of the parts I couldn't take seriously (AU Light's scream lol 😅😂😂) -like at all. It just made me laugh. NDN (Netflix Death Note) can never replace the original so I never thought of it as a replacement. Just think of it as a fanfic au on-screen guys, and chill out.

I didn't like how they portray Ryuk tho. Too much sentiment of 'for d evulzz' and less about 'boredom is literally worse than death. Entertain me.' that I was looking for (and it would've made sense, y'know). Awesome voice acting tho.

I love their L and Watari. Their relationship and characters were the ones that moved me from indifferent amusement to actually liking the film. It was just... so sweet, y'know. And heartbreaking. I almost shed a tear.

The two Kiras (Light and Mia) simultaneously amused and pissed me off. James was meh, and used as a plot device.

All in all, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best either.
