For real tho, I’m tired of reading fic where it’s like “oh I can’t drink alcohol to excess, that would be unhealthy mentally and physically” and “I made sure to go to the gym for my regimented daily physical activity” and “surely I wouldn’t drive when I am upset; that would be hazardous” like this is a big reason I avoid modern settings. Because you guys have got to stop this. We’re not preschoolers. It’s boring and annoying and unrealistic. I want to read about characters who resemble actual humans, and are as big of disasters as myself and my friends. Who make mistakes and unhealthy choices and are bad role models.

And if you write about something this way, only showing the Approved Healthiest Version of....sex or drinking or college or workplace relationships or WHATEVER, then I tend to think you have no actual experience and have only heard about those things from a great distance, like an alien trying to write about human life based solely on educational programming.

#tbh an alien would find the weirdest shit to get excited about #shoelaces #sol 3 planet beings had end of limb protectors #and they often came off!#so they invited methods to secure them #they had advanced flora based technology mimicking flora reproduction interactions with surface keratin deposits #but all juveniles were required to learn a method of securing limb end protectors called shoelaces #it is unclear the real reason behind this -- possibly a rite of passage to prove sufficient finer limb dexterity #o.O #yeah... I'm definitely tired #my brain is dumping bullshit #*invented
