I really like this scene for establishing them as siblings. And that lantern is so pretty! I wish we got to see other lanterns that pretty! and I want one of those lanterns so bad now!
Also, i like how jyl, wwx, and then jc all hold the lantern. it’s really sweet... and it’s also their death order (assuming jc ever dies). ope. my brain went there. sorry. but not that sorry.

Tonight in GIF Making: Ep 17 and 24 WWX and JLY Emotional Comfort Parallels
(Really this was a set I noticed three weeks ago while making the “your bones” set for @merelhyn but )
In the first column, she’s also upset so it’s just super super sad all around. JC is not ok. They’re both worried. (you can actually see JC in the bkgd)
In the second set, things are less awful so they’re happier. He’s hurting and she’s hurting but JC is ok and they’re home. They’re back at Lotus Pier. The location makes everything better. They can tease and banter and WWX can do the baby brother thing and sajiao. I love cute happy WWX in JYL’s lap so much.
I also love how THESE are what she does for him when he’s upset. She’ll caress his face to initiate the touch. She’ll grab his hands and comfort him. And then she’ll let him put his head on her lap. Do you wonder about this ever started? Maybe this is how she handled him/reached out to him when he’s just been whipped by YZY or been chased by a dog. Touch gently and let him get close. Touch some more and reassure him. Then let him in and comfort him full on.
There’s something so warm and sweet about this sequence. I’m really glad the CQL team made a point to have this be their comfort ritual.
Tonight in GIF Making - JFM’s Sword
How have we never talked about how STUNNING it is?! Look at it! The fish swimming in the water, the lotus and lily pads wrapped around the hilt. The LOTUS as the pommel! It is STUNNING! And it’s so organic.
Sandu took the sword’s elegance and beauty and combined it with the Yunmeng and YuZiYuan aesthetics and ruthlessness. Instead of fish, Sandu has snakes. Instead of a lotus, Sandu has a toad. Instead of the smooth texture of wood (probably the same stuff Lotus Pier and the lotus throne is made from), Sandu has the texture of a centipede. I love how JC’s sword pays homage to this!!
Suibian took this sword’s organic grace. Suibian has metal wrapping around its grainy wood. Suibian is wilder and more raw but made of the same stuff. And I think that’s a design comment about how much wwx understands the Jiang Sect Motto.
This is how you know both boys loved him and how he loved both boys. I know fandom drags him as a dad and he deserved a lot of it. But look at their swords! Look at the design and the structure and see him in the boys he raised!

MDZS Novel Translation: Lotus Pod Extra Part 1 (English Only)
So… a while back, I causally mentioned to @merelhyn that i wanted to translate something just to see how I liked it. She asked me if i had something in mind. When I told her no, she basically jumped on this and said I should translate this. Had it not be over the interwebs, she would’ve waved giant rainbow neon flags and signs to guide me towards this. So… yeah. If you like it, thank her. Also, she did a once-over for me and caught some mistakes. so thank her for that too! ^_^
I’ll also be posting the version of the document with the chinese and my commentary as a separate post… because i think that’s probably more valuable/interesting to see where my brain was and where this amateur translator is probably failing?

General notes: MXTX’s use of commas annoy me so much. I ended up breaking up really long sentences into smaller ones for 1) my own sanity, 2) my sense of sentence structure, and 3) aesthetics. Probably grammar too… but i’m pretty bad at grammar so idk. So you’ll see chinese followed by the translation. then notes in brackets if there are any… hope it’s easy to follow? i went through and tried to format them differently too… You can also just go read the english only version if you want… it’s in another post. i can link it in the comments.
as per the other post, thank @merelhyn an her rabid love of this extra for me translating it. hahaha! also, she did a once-over before i posted and caught some mistakes of mine. :D

Who could? It was impossible. Only the Sect Leader knew her secrets – and he was dead, dead long before he could pass along his knowledge to his heir, and of course it wasn’t written down anywhere.
