Found Family and Wordless “I Love You”
Seriously, this is how we say I love you in a Chinese family. Just take the best foods from the plate and put it in someone else’s bowl. It’s the universal language of food.
They really leaned into this found family thing and showed how close the three of them are.

Hope people who celebrate xmas are having a good one. My husband's family had so many zoom calls today. And we had hotpot for dinner. It was nice but I decided to not make anything to post. I'll do it tomorrow. Love you all! Here's a photo of my dinner.
Also earlier today we baked some nutella in puffed pastry. It was delicious 😋.

It looks like you are willing to assist with CQL translation things. Perhaps you could help me out? For fic purposes, I wanted to include a sixth sect including its name and location. I looked on MDZS and did not see that the sect (Xue) had one listed already. The other sects (Yunmeng, Gusu, etc) don't seem to have translations, so I'm not sure what they actually refer to. If I wanted to come up with a name/locale for another sect, what lines should I be looking along?
They’re all places and places don’t really have “translations”! :) I made google maps show me directions and circled them in their sect colors. What was MXTX doing with relative distance in the novel? IDK but it did annoy me A LOT. It wasn’t very accurate. orz
Anyway, the format/formula for the names are all XX + M +氏. where XX is a location (云梦，姑苏， 清河，岐山，兰陵) where M is a last name (江，蓝，聂，温，金) and 氏meaning family/sect. So if you want to go with xue, go with xue and pick a location. Then do location + xue + clan/sect
remember that madam yu is from 眉山 which is further southwest past chongqing (which is in sichuan and probably why JC and WWX can both handle spice so well -- training by YZY’s tastes of home. let me tell you, sichuan people make the best sausages -- spicy, numbing, umami, savory goodness. full disclosure: my family is from a town not too far from 眉山 so i’m super objective about the food. XD) and the family is 眉山虞氏.
also, side note: gusu is currently a district in suzhou but an old name for suzhou. so it might be fun to pick an area on a chinese map and look for tang or song or earlier location names for that place.

I made Lotus Root and Pork Rib soup last night.
Boil water, blanch pork ribs, rinse off gunk and then get fresh water. Add in ginger (required) and (optionally) goji berries and a cup of chicken broth. Simmer for 80ish minutes. Peel and chop lotus root. Add to soup after 80 min. cook for another 30. Salt, green onions, and pepper to taste. If you find the meat bland (which I do), have a little dipping bowl of soy sauce for the meat.
@needtherapy asked what it tastes like... So I've copied my message to her:
The lotus makes it sweet and the pork is fairly umami especially if you add the right amount of salt. The pork fat adds a bit of stickiness to it. The ginger cuts away the bad pork smells so you need it but it's not as noticable. The goji adds a hint of sweet and the green onions add color and allium flavors.
Overall it's a light soup. I'd eat it year round but summer makes good lotus root hard to find... T.T I'm so glad it's no longer summer.

Making chili oil. Wei wuxian will be proud.
Take chili powder, chili flakes, and black sesame. Make it into a pile, make a divot, pour canola oil at 350-400F into the divot. Let sit until cooked. I love how it smells and how it sizzles. Put on lid, store at room temp. Just make sure it doesn't go rancid... It shouldn't. I haven't had mine ever go rancid...

Strawberries were on sale. I guess I'm making sorbet or maybe popsicles this week. On the left: strawberry, lemon, basil + sugar. In the right: strawberry, balsamic vinegar, sugar. I'll probably see if I can cook down the balsamic and swirl it into goat cheese + sugar + cream for a popsicle. I have no idea what I'm doing tbh. But this seems good.
Edit: oops. Posted to wrong blog. Alas. I'm sure cql/mdzs people can enjoy too. ^^;
Update: the popsicles were amazing!! And the sorbet might be over reduced.... But we'll find out in an hour or so. Fingers crossed. Meep...
The sorbet didn't really set after churning for 2 hrs in the ice cream maker and chest freezer... So popping it in Tupperware. Will update again tomorrow afternoon. Fingers crossed... Or i'll just use it for strawberry soda.
