I think this scene captures WWX living his uncle dreams and I am here for this uncle-nephew dynamic. JYL would be so happy and exasperated. And look at how they’re both so pleased in that last gif!!

Idk if this is my FAVORITE relationship but it’s definitely one I think needs to be highlighted more!

The scar on LWJ’s chest is one of the main reasons I read the book. Why did LWJ have that scar? What did it have to do with WWX? Why was it not explained!? Why would CQL show it and not explain it?!

The bolded line killed me. It epitomized devotion and despair. I can’t get over how much I love this line. it’s understated. It’s simple. And it captures so much of what LWJ wanted. He wanted to really know WWX so he chose to experience some of what WWX had experienced and leave upon himself an imprint of that.

The LWJ drinking scene is literally him taking wine from WWX’s hand when they’re talking about XXC and SL just before the Yi City arc in CQL. I like it as a literal way of showing LWJ drinking the wine WWX drank. And I like it for how upset he looks. In this scene, LWJ says 世事无常 – the affairs of the world are never consistent. Interestingly 常 here for consistent is the same Chang as the family that Xue Yang massacred. So maybe it could be punnily translated as the affairs of the world do not include Changs… which would be macabrely apt.

蓝忘机闭上眼睛，转过了头。魏无羡体贴地道：“没事！兔子那么可爱，谁不喜欢。我也喜欢，喜欢吃哈哈哈哈哈哈！”

Lan Wangji closed his eyes and turned his head. Wei Wuxian said sympathetically, “No big deal! Rabbits are so cute, who wouldn’t like them. I like them too, like to eat them! Hahahahahaha!”

Look at how happy WWX is! He is LOVING this. The fact that WWX is still alive is a sign of how much LWJ loves him. And the fact that LWJ puts up with it is PEAK ROMANCE.

Then again, that last smile. If I were LWJ, yeah, putting up with the teasing would be worth seeing WWX giggle like that.

Also, as a meat-lover, i agree with WWX. I like to eat bunnies! But I also think they’re cute.

“父亲,我给你找来了你最爱的女人. 有很多个. 你高兴吗?”

“Father, I have brought you your favorite – women. There are many. Are you happy?”

So this prompt gave me some trouble. Did I want to do candy with Xue Yang? Did I want to do WWX being a gremlin? Nope. I picked the creepiest thing I could for for trick or treat.

I’m not sorry. For the record, I don’t like this scene. I don’t like watching it. It gives me the creeps… which means it’s perfect for Halloween!

Trick or treat is such an innocuous thing kids say at Halloween! But I also associate it with horror stories I read as a child. So this is a macabre and horror interpretation of it.

Is this a treat for JGS? Sure. By JGY’s words, we can pretend it is. Both trick and treat. Trick or treat? JGY bows, straightens his hat, and says: I will endeavor to satisfy both.

And I know I’ve said this in a my JGY meta post but translation note: you can translate JGY’s line as your favorite women or your favorite – women. I chose to translate it as the latter due to the context.

When Wei Wuxian’s feet touch the “ground”, it was as if he stepped onto a thick layer of mud. The “mud” was soaked with water. The omnipresent stench almost made him curse out loud.

This stench evoked a sense of decay and sickly sweetness, reminding Wei Wuxian of a fat dead rat he once found by one of Yunmeng’s lakes. He pinched his nose and thought, “This damned place… … luckily Lan Zhan didn’t come in here. For someone as unused to getting his hand dirty as him, just this smell alone would make him immediately vomit. If he doesn’t vomit, he would surely faint.”

I love the way the resentment gathers into him and the YinHuFu (Stygian Tiger Seal). It makes me wonder how many dead people’s souls are hanging out at Nightless City. Based on how WRH was, it doesn’t surprise me that there were so many...

I think the resentment visual is my favorite effect in the show. :) Maybe it’s tied with some of the pretty talisman and butterfly magic stuff... the rest of the special effects in the show... are... uh... quite something...

So I saw this face while making a different gif set and decided it needed to be the first gif of another set. Luckily [is it luckily? maybe tragically considering the context of the story...], the sword fell as did NMJ’s head. o.O

I didn’t remember JC seeing WZL remove his core in the flashback scene. o.O the way lotus pier is on fire and JC’s horror and the glow of the core. it hurts!

But then we get the pretty purple glow of his... er... wwx’s golden core. NOT what i expected but this is the only visualization we have of a golden core and it’s so yunmeng jiang it hurts. Probably one of the reasons he DOESN’T realize it’s not his own but WWX’s is because they practiced the same style. Even had wwx practiced due to his parents’ teaching, his dad was from the Jiang sect so likely taught him to cultivate along those paths. Their cores probably feel the same and have the same architecture -- if core architecture is a thing. I image it ebbing and flowing like the waters of Yunmeng lakes.

I also love JC’s smile and happy faces in the last two gifs. the last three gifs are from the same shot but I cut them up with some overlapping frames because i love how he looks in this and want to focus on each expression. just the way he sighs with so much of him and that relaxing.
