You’re one, Leo!
Hi y’all! This is the promised story of Leo’s first birthday. Let’s say it somewhere before the Season 15th finale. It’s a very long story so I hope you enjoy it!
—///—
—///—-
The house is entirely decorated in blue, yellow and red balloons and farm animals. There is a table full of snacks, a big cake in blue frosting and a trampoline in my backyard. Amelia made an amazing job picking everything, from the decoration to the cake. The sun is out making it a lovely day to celebrate the boy that taught me how to be a dad.
The house is full of our friends and their kids. Leo’s opened every gift he received, trying to follow the bigger kids and eating more than he should. The music baby shark plays non-stop inside and to be honest, I don’t even pay attention to it anymore since Baby Shark is the only music that I’ve been listening for weeks now.
I’m sipping my beer on the deck talking to Alex when Zola comes running towards me.
“Uncle Owen, Uncle Owen!” She says worriedly. “Come! Leo’s crying.”
I frown looking at her.
“What’s going on?”
“He was playing with Bailey and Ellis on the trampoline, but he fell, and Bailey didn’t stop jumping,” Zola tells me as I cross the yard, to find a crying Leo sprawled on the trampoline.
“I didn’t see him,” Bailey says immediately, looking extremally sorry. “I didn’t see him, I swear!”
After a season of many ups and downs, it seems like Grey’s Anatomy wrapped its finale by bringing resolution to one of its main plots: the love triangle (or pentagon?). Amelia set her mind on moving on, whereas Owen professed his love for Teddy. The relationship, one that was much discussed and sold by the show like a true connection and yet was never really shown or portrayed as such, is likely to become one of the main plots for the upcoming season, leaving a lot of fans confused and disappointed with the many inconsistencies and retcons that were created to support this creative decision. In order to bring some clarity into the process, we’ve stumbled upon this material that (unlike the show) does a wonderful job proving points with actions rather than words.
This fic was requested by @holynickelclodlamp from #4 on this list. Thank you for your kind words! Here’s some fluff and love and all of the above ☺️
It’s been 100 degrees outside in Seattle for the past five days, which is most definitely saying something. It surpasses three of the historical high records. In other words, it’s sweltering. People are melting into the sidewalk, EMT requests are at an all-time high, and the ER is flooded with dehydration and heat stroke patients. So, yeah, it’s been a rough week and a few busy shifts and way too many people refusing to drink water and take frequent breaks indoors. Sunscreen is an issue too, but that’s another matter entirely.
When Amelia walks out of their bedroom and into the blistering sunlight in jeans and a long-sleeved shirt, Owen knows the next victim of the sun is none other than his wife. Acclaimed neurosurgeon and superhero she may be, invincible she is not.
“Babe?” he asks gently while grabbing their to-go bags: They both have the next shift at the hospital. “Whatcha doing?” He glances over her attire.
Shrinking under his attentive gaze, Amelia bristles. “Going to work,” she says shortly.
He rolls his eyes, but it’s still light, easy. “I see that,” Owen says. “But don’t you think you’re a little,” he chooses his next words very carefully at the dangerous glint in her eyes, “overdressed?”
She looks down at her own attire, willing her body to stop shivering. “No.” She tries to brush it off, but he sees right through the ruse.
“Come on, Amelia,” he says, “you’re sick.” He reaches out to touch her arm, holding back a grimace at her clammy yet burning skin. She’s in a bit deep, he surmises.
She shakes his hand off as she unlocks the car. “It’s just a stupid cold, Owen.”
“I don’t think so…”
She turns to him with a glare. “I’m a doctor, too, you know.” Turning the key in the ignition, she continues. “I think I know my own body better than you do.”
Owen gently offers her the passenger side door and, by some miracle, she actually gets out of the driver’s seat. Something prickles at the back of his neck, but he lets it slide. “While I normally would agree,” he begins as he backs out of their driveway, “I also know that you’re stubborn and hate to look weak. Which you don’t, but I know how you get.” He says it softly, sweetly. When she doesn’t respond, he continues. “And you’d rather this be a pesky cold than what it is.”
“And what is it?” she growls.
He doesn’t falter. “Heat exhaustion.” He takes a look at her shivering body, her closed eyes likely from dizziness, headache, or nausea. He hopes for her sake that it’s not all three. “Likely to become heat stroke if not treated properly.”
She huffs. “I know.”
That prickly sensation is back. The sensation that she knew all along. “So let’s get you to the ER and pump you full of fluids.”
She sniffles. “I’m a doctor.” He waits, well aware of what’s to come next. “I shouldn’t have let this happen.”
Hearing her wavering voice, he reaches one hand over to rub her shoulder. “It happens.” He slides his hand down her trembling arm to pick up her cold hand, pressing a tender kiss to the knuckles.
“But I should have known,” she sobs.
“It’s not heat stroke yet. You saw the signs.” He lets out a tiny breath. “And you know as well as I do that pregnant women have heat exhaustion come on much more quickly and easily than others do. Besides, your morning sickness has been through the roof so it was hard to keep any liquids down regardless.” Another few tears slip down her cheeks. “But we caught it and we’ll get you and our little munchkin all cooled down.”
“And we’ll call OB?”
“We’ll call OB.” He turns to her as they stop at a red light. “But everything’s going to be just fine. It’ll all be alright.”
She lets out a long breath. “It’ll all be alright.”

Reasons to love Pepper Potts:
- she’s a strong woman who’s been successfully independent for most of her life
- she’s both smart and wise about the company
- she doesn’t neglect her mental health when Tony isn’t good for her at the moment
- when Tony switches gears out of the blue, changing the company’s goal completely, she goes along with it
- when given the company, she does her very best with it
- she is incredibly patient with Tony
- although she gets tired of his ways, she trusts Tony, even when she doesn’t understand what he’s thinking
- she doesn’t let her relationship with him change her views of her position there at the company, and continues to work just as hard as before
- what happens to her is scary, but she recognizes that it isn’t Tony’s fault and that she signed up for this sort of thing when she started working for him
- although he doesn’t like it and most of us don’t, she knows the suits are damaging his health and their relationship; she’s brave to speak up about it and try to settle things rather than simply leaving him or letting things deteriorate
- she’s got a good personality that drives the story forwards
- throughout all the years of problems, she stays with Tony in some way, whether it’s by his side or with the company, and she’s still with him in Infinity War, so many years after this movie franchise began
• she’s a born leader. when thrust into precarious situations, her first instinct is to take charge of the situation. despite not being a superhero herself, she actually utilises the resources in her control to make the best of a situation; she leads shield agents to regular cops and directs them on what to do
• pepper is a strategic thinker, and whenever an issue occurs, not only does she take charge, her priority is the civilians (just like tony). this is pepper in im2, giving instructions to the local cops in order to help stop the damage:
Cop: We shut down the 7th train in and out of willets point already.
Pepper: Well, have the city buses there to ferry people to operating lines.
• pepper actually stays back at the expo during vanko’s attack (despite there being no immediate need to do so), because she wanted to wait until ALL of the civilians were cleared.
• she’s NOT written in the typical rom-com way of “PA in love with asshole boss” (in mcu). in fact, it’s the opposite, while she may have feelings for tony prior to im1, at no point is she shown to be endlessly pining for him or being jealous of other women.
• in her relationship with tony, it is NOT her who has a hard time getting tony (the-playboy-billionaire) to commit, it’s the reverse. tony is the one begging her to marry him, to prepone their marriage, to have a kid etc. it’s such a wonderful trope reversal.
• she actually runs the largest tech conglomerate on earth (in tony’s own words). the only one who invests more time and energy into stark industries is JARVIS – a literal AI.
• she’s fricking incredibly brave. she went to obadiah’s office to steal information from right under his nose. she is no superhero, doesn’t know combat, isn’t a trained superspy, she’s just a civilian, who does it because it needed to be done.
• she is quite ready to kill someone she loves for the greater good. she did it back in im1, when there was no earth in danger, no alien attacks, but the only consequence was that obie might escape with arc-reactor technology. as peggy carter said, she respects the dignity of tony’s choice.
• she actually killed two out of three of the villains of iron man. it seems that she does take out the trash.
• she also planned to invite avengers into her home. (as you can see pepper & tony together planned the remodel of avengers tower with rooms for each avenger. and the stark tower was pep’s & tony’s home first.)
• she actually believes in the goodness of people. she consoles maya hansen and tells her not to be so hard on herself. this is tony’s ex-girlfriend, and also someone who works for a terrorist (both of which pepper knows at this point), but even so, pepper sees the best in maya.
Maya: Yeah, but killian built that think tank on military contracts.
Pepper: that’s exactly what we used to do. So, don’t judge yourself.
• also, notice how pepper uses “we”, and not “tony” or “stark industries”. that’s why tony & pepper make a good pair, because their values match – they hold themselves accountable. pepper takes responsibility for obie double-dealing weapons – despite the fact that neither pepper nor tony knew about it, despite the fact that she was “just a PA” when it happened.
• pepper believes in teams, she doesn’t say it as a catch-phrase, but it is evident in her actions – a failure on the part of the team (SI’s weapons manufacturing) will be shouldered by each member of the team (both pepper and tony).
• also, when pepper is ambushed killian, her first instinct is to tell maya to save herself. she’s genuinely concerned about others (just as much as tony).
• she’s not the emotional sounding board of the hero. pepper does try to help tony the best she can. she is one of the few (along with Rhodey & happy) who recognise that tony is having mental health issues, and she encourages him to sort it out. but the moment it seems to harm her, she steps back. i know that the fandom considers pepperony “toxic” or even “abusive”, simply because pepper doesn’t play the role of therapist for tony. but after a parade of female characters who cure male characters depression/ptsd/or general funk through the “power of love”, i for one am sure glad that we have a heroine who doesn’t act as a therapist or emotional sounding board to a grown man.
Plus after ENDGAME and that scene the strongest avenger person of the MCU

The Noisy House
Hi! This random one-shot is dedicated to one of my dear best friends and one of my biggest supporters @omeliastories for her birthday today! We definitely should write a story together soon; Love you SO much; hope you enjoy this pure fluff of a story for your day 💗
Hope you all enjoy this fic to make up from the nightmare that was that season finale earlier this week!
Growing up the trauma surgeon’s favorite day out of the whole year, second to Thanksgiving; was his birthday. It wasn’t because of the gifts he unwrapped after school or the smell of a delicious vanilla cake and the frosting his mother handmade instead; it was the constant act of giving back he did for someone he loved or needed it more. He spent most of his birthdays over in Iraq while with Beth and in his relationship with Cristina, the two would typically go to Joe’s Bar alongside Derek and Meredith if they weren’t on call. But it wasn’t until he met the beautiful brunette neurosurgeon that he ever met someone who never celebrated their birthday. One year into their relationship Owen had learned when Amelia’s birthday was by overhearing her thanking the cardiothorastic surgeon who bought a singular cupcake for her at the local store. Since then Owen never made a big deal about it, until this year.
Occasionally throughout his shift and after scrubbing out of emergency surgeries; Owen would review the surgical board where every surgery in the hospital occured, preoccupied as he searched high and low he saw Maggie beside him erasing her name.
“You have that look. The look that you are up to something” Maggie asked the red headed man before the two shared a laugh while the woman walked towards the nurses station to hand over a tablet of her patient’s information.
“I don’t have a look.” Owen replied almost defensively but very confusingly after laughing.
“You do so! The look that says you are doing or already did something special for Amelia’s birthday but you’re not telling her until the last minute.” Maggie told him before she saw him walking away, she was confused by his actions.
The trauma surgeon sighed and walked behind the nurses desk, and sat on the spinning chair facing the computer. He removed his phone from the bottom of his scrub pants and swiped his pointer finger across the screen before landing on the designated photo. Owen turned the screen around, suddenly Maggie gasped in excitement and nearly screamed for the entire ICU floor to hear her.
“This is Riley; I put in the adoption papers two weeks ago and now she’s ours, just in time for Amelia’s birthday.” The man described and told all the information he had known about the small four week old Golden Retriever puppy he had planned on gifting Amelia later that night before her birthday dinner.
“Oh my god! Oh my god! She’ll love her! And Leo! He will have a best friend.” The cardiothorastic surgeon squealed and sat down next to her once brother in law to hear every small detail about the small puppy.
________________________________
Hours after his somewhat normal day; Owen and Leo made their way home without Amelia due to an emergency craniotomy she took the lead on for Tom Koraick. Settling in nicely with the new addition of their family; the trauma surgeon began to prepare the brunette’s favorite meal of Penne pasta with a tomato and basil sauce while in the other room, the small boy played with his fluffy four pawed friend. Approximately twenty two minutes into cooking; the trauma surgeon heard the door being unlocked from afar and knew by the twisting of the key that the love of his life was finally home.
“Hi! Sorry I’m home so late, we almost lost the patient but we successfully brought him back. And I’m starving! That smells amazing!” The brunette rambled on about her day to her boyfriend who diligently chopped up basil leaves to place in the giant pot of homemade tomato sauce. She attempted to hug his larger and more muscular frame from behind, and raised her toes to kiss him on the cheek. Owen stopped what he was doing and lovingly kissed her on the lips. After the brief moment of affection Amelia spotted their little boy in his highchair and lifted him high above her head.
“Hello my lovely boy! I missed you so much today!” The neurosurgeon exaggerated on the “so” before she continuously started kissing him on his rounded yet perfect cheeks. Leo laughed at his mother’s actions and drooled out of his mouth a bit. Without a warning Amelia heard small footsteps beneath her, confused she looked down and was surprised to see a small dog with her tongue happily sticking out of her mouth.
“Who is this?” She asked Owen as bent down to pet the dog. Owen; who turned back to his chopping of the ingredients to avoid her eyes as if he was a small child again and did something he was not supposed to do.
“I wanted to make your birthday special; is this too much?”
Amelia carefully grabbed Riley from the kitchen floor and Leo back from his highchair, the brunette watched Owen turn around. With both hands full and a giant smile on her face; the brunette passionately kissed the trauma surgeon before talking.
“She is perfect. I love you so much; Owen!”
Everything in Amelia’s life felt as though it was things made out of a movie script; the year was difficult for her as she found herself and attempted to seek alternative pain relief in a rash matter, and went away from Seattle for a while. But all those times of feeling alone by chasing what she thought wanted; she always knew she wanted Owen to be the one she spends the rest of her days with.
Hope you all enjoy one of my new favorite stories I’ve written!
This is amazing! Thank you so much, Destiny! I love it! It made me smile so much! I love you so much and thank you for being one of my best friends! 💕💕
