I see whereyou’re coming from here, anon, and I agree that it would be pretty cool – it wouldrestore something that Yondu had lost very early on in his life.
Though (andI’m sorry to disappoint you here) I’m a big fan of the idea that the dead take on a form ofthemselves that reflects the person they will be remembered as. So to speak, they take on an appearance of how they will be kept in the hearts and memoriesof the loved ones they have left behind.
I’m partlybasing this of „Mister Blue Sky“, since I think of it as Yondu’s „theme song“in this movie. The particular line of “Iwill remember you this way” is what sealed the deal here for me. And sincePeter and Kraglin are the ones staying behind, they will only remember theYondu who had not a natural, but a metallic fin. That’s who he was to them.
And furthermore,Yondu has been sold into slavery as a baby, and probably had his fin taken fromhim pretty early in his life as a slave. The fin… well, he will be aware that heonce had a fin, but it probably doesn’t mean that much to him. He can’tremember it. There is no memory connected to it.
And when hemeets the Ravagers in the afterlife, like I like to headcanon, then them willremember him without a real fin, too.
Since thesemovies are all about found family, friendship, loyalty and love, I would justlike to think that, rather than becoming something that he never was, andmeeting a family who never wanted him in the first place… Yondu stays the sameperson he was in his life and the one he will be remembered as – Ravager, prostheticfin, perhaps even something like his arrow - and that he meets the family hehas known and loved, so the Ravagers, and, by a stretch, Meredith, since thetwo of them are connected through Peter and their love for him.
Of course, sinceI already wrote about Yondu and Meredith setting out to find Ego’s children inthe afterlife, there is also the possibility that Yondu decides to go look forhis parents, if only to check out how they would have been, and, perhaps, findout why they gave him away. Though, knowing Yondu and his bitterness when itcomes to that part of his history, I don’t think he would really listen to anyexplanation they would give him. But perhaps he would find other Centauriansand even family members whom he can be more open towards.
I hope thatexplains my own take on the matter, anon. =D
