KUCHING, June 18 — The Sarawak government is studying mineral mining practices and legislation in Canada to explore the potential for graphite production from biomass. Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg said a delegation led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan recently visited the country to study these matters. “Canada is a global leader in mineral management and exploration practices that are environmentally friendly. They rehabilitate mining areas afterward,” he told reporters after today’s Sarawak Premier Department’s Aidiladha sacrificial ritual. He said the delegation’s findings would complement studies conducted by the Sarawak Department of Minerals and Geosciences on identified minerals, aimed at avoiding over-exploitation. “I will examine their report because we have the potential to extract graphite. Biomass in Sarawak possesses qualities that can yield graphite, a chemical essential for hydrogen fuel cells,” he said.

(Nairobi) – The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) armed group has killed, injured, and unlawfully detained scores of civilians and raped women and girls during attacks across Sudan’s Al Gezira state, Human Rights Watch said today. Given the scale and severity of the threat to civilians, it is critical for the United Kingdom to use its November United Nations Security Council presidency to push for UN action to deploy a mission to protect civilians in Sudan.
Since the October 20, 2024 defection of a leading RSF ally in eastern Al Gezira, the RSF has attacked at least 30 villages and towns, certainly an underestimate, including Rufaa, Tamboul, Al-Sireha, and Azrag. The UN has said that over 130,000 people have fled the attacks to other parts of Sudan.
“This recent massive uptick in the Rapid Support Forces’ heinous attacks against civilians should end any lingering hopes that these crimes will stop without a strong global response,” said Mohamed Osman, Sudan researcher at Human Rights Watch. “The UN Security Council’s minimal action is clearly failing to protect civilians. It urgently needs to authorize the deployment of a civilian protection mission.” [...]
north gaza has been under siege for over a month and now every single hospital is no longer functioning, with only kamal adwan left on minimal supplies and constant bombardment. the hospital director films daily videos asking for help and assistance, after his son was murdered by the idf in retaliation for him refusing to leave the hospital.
the idf has announced "no civilians will return" and also that "no civilians are left" in northern gaza, despite neither of these things being true. they've also made it clear that they will ethnically cleanse and annex it, have further plans for a "three part" annexation of gaza, have attached their insane minister of settlements who's been frothing at the mouth to resettle gaza since 2005 to the war cabinet (she's also calling for settlements in the south of lebanon) and continue to kill between 80-100 people daily in both lebanon and gaza, many if not most of them children.

joe biden is still the president, and the US is still impeding the ICC warrants out for israeli leaders. also note that the ICJ—the international court of justice—ruled this july that israel is obliged to dismantle west bank settlements and pay reparations to palestinians. the US could make that happen, if it chose to. the US could simply get out of the way of the UN and let other international bodies make that happen as well.

hey let's start spreading the reminder now that you cannot safely self-manage an abortion with herbal medicine or essential oils. natural abortifacients function by poisoning you; you wait for your body to realize you're dying and reject the pregnancy in order to conserve resources, and hope that happens before the rest of your organs shut down.
i think there will be an upsurge soon of unscrupulous and/or malicious actors preying on desperate pregnant people; do not help them kill people. don't spread recipes for herbal medicines or ingestible essential oil mixtures that purport to cause a pregnancy termination.

A manatee rescue that I follow responded to a call about a female manatee with two calves because one of her babies had been injured by a boat strike. The entire family was temporarily relocated from the wild into a wildlife rehab facility for the injured male calf to undergo treatment. While there, vets noted the female calf was significantly larger than the little injured male. They did genetic testing and determined that big sister calf actually wasn’t related to the other two manatees at all! She was in fact an orphan calf that the adult manatee had found and taken in to care for right alongside her own little one.
Wild to think this manatee calf was literally adopted and nobody would have ever known if it weren’t for random coincidence and human curiosity. Every animal that you cross paths with in life has a fascinating personal story that you’ll only ever catch a glimpse of (if you’re lucky).

I don't know how to describe this video so I'll just write out what he's saying:
That is the beginning of an Israeli settlement. And this is the Palestinian village of Umm al-Hiran. Which is right now under a demolition order, in order to expand the settlement that way.
And we are not in the West Bank. We are in the Naqab desert. Every single Palestinian in that village has an Israeli passport. And yet they're being expelled to make way for a Jewish settlement.
And look at the hills around us. This place is empty. If Israel wants to build a settlement, they can do it anywhere. And yet they choose to do it here. Because the only purpose of that settlement is to expel Palestinians from their land.
This is happen all over the Naqab desert. Currently 14 Palestinian Bedouin communities are under demolition orders. And thousands of people are set to become homeless.
This is the most blatant illustration that Israel is an ethno-nationalist apartheid state. The Palestinians of Umm al-Hiran have the exact same citizenship as the settlers who are about to move into their land. And yet the Palestinians are being ethnically cleansed just because they belong to an ethno-cultural group that the Israeli state wants to suppress as much as possible.

pointing out that capitalist welfare states are built on imperialist superprofits gets a lot of wank on here so just wanted to point to a new example. novo nordisk, denmark's (our favourite nordic model state) largest company (its market capitalisation exceeds the size of denmark's economy) is a pharmaceutical company that saw its fortunes rise after the decades long battle that enforced international IP law on India to prevent it from re-engineering drugs as generics. quite literally extraction of super profits via enforcement of fake monopolies.

if you are part of a community space where there are no trans girls, and you recognize that as an issue, the next step is not "find trans girls and convince them to join."
The next step is consistently and actively confronting transmisogynist language, behavior, and views within that community space, and taking a role in sitting down and talking with other TME people about transfeminism.
if your space is filled with constant unchallenged transmisogyny and made up of TME people who have no practice with (or interest in) unlearning these views when confronted with them, then inviting trans women there doesn't make the space better, it makes those trans girls' lives worse.
