toy soldiers...
There was a time when little green army men were ubiquitous toys, but these plastic soldiers are unlike any we’ve seen before. These are Yoga Joes: classic green army men performing various yoga poses. They were created by San Francisco-based yoga enthusiast Dan Abramson, founder of Brogamats.
"I made Yoga Joes in the spirit of getting more people to try yoga. More unexpected folks are reaping the benefits of yoga today, from professional athletes, to children, to military men and women returning from wartime. When this idea was birthed over a year ago, I thought - what if yoga could be passed around in a way other than from a yoga class. What if yoga could be transmitted through a toy.
I’m hoping people pass Yoga Joes around as an inexpensive gift to friends and loved ones, who might like to give yoga a shot. Plus, I hope yoga fans display them proudly in their homes, offices, and yoga studios. And I hope kids get to be acquainted with yoga from a young age - celebrating military men and women for their focus and discipline.”
Each set features six army men performing the Headstand, Meditation Pose, Cobra Pose, Warrior One, Warrior Two, Child’s Pose, Tree Pose, Crow Pose, and Downward-facing dog, and includes a display case with bamboo flooring. Some of the Yoga Joes even have their own tiny yoga mats.
Abramson launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of his serene plastic soldiers, which was successfully funded last October. But don’t worry, you can still order a set of Yoga Joes right here.
