To me Babs being Oracle is so important to both the DC universe(s) and to her character, like she was a good character before but Oracle always felt more alive than Batgirl, it’s Oracle who works as an information broker, not Batgirl, Batgirl fights crime on the streets like Batman, Batwoman and Robin(s), and, while that’s obvious, being Oracle creates so much more depth for the interpersonal relationships she has because she is in such constant contact with those people, whether they know it’s Babs or not.

She also allows crucial information in the stories to be explained while not just being, ‘ Batman is the worlds greatest detective therefore he has all the answers,’ because while there is nothing wrong with that it becomes overused quickly. Babs being Oracle means that the people and teams she helps can focus on the jobs that they are supposed to be doing while still having a general sense of security and a sense that someone is looking out for them. That, in turn, means that the readers can being to grasp the story as the characters do, find things out while they are learnt.

Also having the literal daughter of a police commissioner be a vigilante-turned-information-broker is just downright badass.

Like this girl knows how things work in this city and how people keep it in check and by god is that an advantage and she uses it, as she should.

I also want to point out that Batgirl seems to be a right of passage thing rather than a permanent (sort of) identity, more akin to the way Robin is rather than the Batman it shares part of its name with.

Also Babs choosing to call herself after the Greek deliverers of prophecy rather than the female version of Batman (Batwoman was taken when she became Batgirl) shows her ability to exist as her own character rather than just an extension of Batman.

If you can’t tell I really like Oracle, I could write about her for hours but it’s late so this is all I can coherently put together off the top of my head.

In saying this she needs more personality than just “braincell” (as does Tim) because she isn’t just a brain cell, she is a person with loads of brain cells, with emotions, with likes and dislikes, goals, mistakes, passion, trauma, struggles, things she excels in. She has relationships, both bad and good, along with everything in between. She has relationships with her family, the Batfamily, with her lovers (past and present), she has a relationship with Cass that is incredibly important and nuanced, they are like a mother and daughter while still having to be a sort of mentor and student because they’re vigilantes, she has he relationships with all of the teams she guides, with the gcpd, with people close to her outside of being Oracle.

There needs to be an Oracle movie

Barbara Gordon and her time as Batgirl. The subtle implications of misogyny (from criminals, emergency services, social media, etc.) and her struggles of being slightly outcast from the Bats (maybe not intentionally, but it's still felt). Despite that (and how hard the role is), she admits to feeling alive and powerful as Batgirl. She loves her ability to help Gotham, the city her dad tries so hard to shape up to be better.

Then the Joker shoots Barbara. He doesn't shoot Batgirl, doesn't even know it's Batgirl that's being injured, but he shoots Barbara because she's the commissioner's daughter. Her life changing injury isn't even about her.

There's the hopelessness, the grief, the sense of loss, and then Jason dies.

The Bats, try as they might to be there for her, are drowning in their own grief. They can't be there for her even if they wanted to.

She's wasting away with the realization that she's lost everything and her father is bending under the weight of supporting her and his job as commissioner.

Slowly, an idea comes to her. Slowly, when she starts looking out at Gotham's skyline and sees the clock tower, she begins to pull herself back together.

It's not an easy process, and she does return to depressive spirals and bed rotting, but she starts to have more decent days than bad. She's puts away her first criminal as Oracle. She becomes a feared force the Bats can turn to for help.

The end of the movie will hint at her starting Birds of Prey.

And the sexism and misogyny being addressed to is very important.

I would pay good money to watch a movie like this! And then even a sequel with the actual birds of prey where Barbara is a badass in spite of her disability, even when it's really hard some days

Yes! I get so annoyed that she's treated as an extention of the Bats and just tech help. She is so badass as Oracle. No one can hide from her, and that is super scary for goons.

Barbara kicking ass and overcoming the obstacles in her way (some of them just being ableist assholes or dumbass people who won't put simple accommodations in) is so riveting. Just Barbara Gordon and proving misogynist, ableist asshole wrong.

I think the Birds of Prey are also really important. Yes, the Bats are her family. However, it's mainly a boy band. They don't share the same experiences and obstacles Barbara has because of her gender. The empowerment she feels from a group that does understand those difficulties is great. All of the members can feel acceptance and support from it.

I just need Barbara Gordon as Oracle movies or shows.

I have loved her since my first game of Batman Arkham Knight

Jason, freshly returned to Gotham from Nanda Parbat, has a cover for finding out who the Big Players are.

His cover is being a prostitute.

He was not aware of Oracles facial recognition rogram also running for grown up versions of missing kids.

He was not aware that she put Jason's 15 year old face in there out of grief and forgot to remove it.

Now the Bats think that Jason's had amnesia this whole time and really IS a prostitute, and Bruce is trying so hard to be supportive its painfully awkward, and Jason is ready to just say "fuck it surprise im red hood" but like...also it's funny to watch Bruce squirm.

Second thought, it's hilarious.

So Jason commits to the bit in between his Red Hood runs, recording and laughing over how fucking awkward Bruce and Dick and Tim are.
