It's not perfect but I've tried my best, thanks for sharing it Winter 😄💙
Arednelle has a population of 800, give or take. So they only need to produce enough crops to sustain themselves, which based on the layouts of these farms, that's exactly what they're doing -- which will lead into a separate post on the post Great Freeze devastation -- I have researched the crops that were grown in Northern Norway and Sweden in the 1800's.
Vegetable Farms x 9: Turnips, potatoes, carrots, onions, peas, brussel sprouts, and beans are cultivated, as they store well through the winter months. Bulbs Fields x5: Tulips, which are likely for export. Grain Fields x7: Barley is the most important cereal crop as it is used for brewing, rye & oats grow in harsher, colder conditions, and wheat in milder conditions. This explains the number of bakeries. Orchards x 11: Apples, pears, plums, cherries, and seasonal berries like Cloudberries and lingonberries. Hay x2: Timothy, fescue, red clover, and white clover. This would be just enough to sustain their livestock. Possibly not enough. Livestock: Cows, goats, muskox, sheep, pigs, and poultry. They likely traded with the Ice Harvesters and/or hunted reindeer meat. Fishing: Salmon, herring, cod, pollock, mackerel, and whitefish. Forage: Lichen.
Nothing in canon (book or otherwise) indicates that any trade was stopped during the 14 years the gates were closed. The 'gates' refer to the castle specifically. Arendelle would have maintained good relations with trade partners during this time. Given its small population, Arededelle remains relatively self sufficient and most likely doesn't need to do a lot of trade.

A quick recap: in the original Broadway production of Frozen, during "For the first time in forever", Anna is seen next to the portrait of some unknown gentleman. Who is he?
I initially thought (incorrectly) this was a portrait of a young King Karl XIV Johan who was the king of Sweden and Norway (where he was known as Karl III Johan) during the years 1818-1844, i.e. during the time Frozen takes place!
Portrait of crown prince Karl Johan by François Gérard 1811 (cropped).
It could have been a cool easter egg to have him appear in the musical but unfortunately (for me) it was not the case!
My friend @bigfrozenfan suggested (correctly) that the uniform of the man in the Frozen portrait was borrowed from a painting of the Russian prince and military commander Pyotr Mikhailovich Volkonsky (1776-1852):
Portrait by English artist George Dawe circa 1823.
Unfortunately, this only gave us half the Broadway painting. We still needed the guy's face. Browsing image results on google, this painting of Russian politician and military commander Pavel Alexandrovich Stroganov (1774-1817) popped up, and it was a perfect match!
Portrait by George Dawe from some time before 1825.
Once we mirrored the picture...
Broadway on the left and original to the right.
Now, why Pavel decided to borrow his countryman Pyotr's uniform in the Frozenverse we can only speculate. What we do know is that they were both long dead when Frozen takes place.
Why were these portraits chosen by the set designers? Why not just use one portrait and call it a day? Why mane an edit? Probably just for fun. Maybe to confuse see if someone would figure out what it was based off of! 😄
It should also be mentioned that something strange is going on with the left epaulette. Compared to the original (right below), some elements of it has been copied and pasted in the Broadway version (left below). I have no idea why. maybe to save space in the picture. Other than that, the uniform appears to be completely unaltered.
I hope you learned something! 😁
Summary:
My friend @virtual-winter and I figured this out already end of 2021. A picture search in Google showed us that this uniform seemed to be very popular at the time when we started our research and was used for many memes.
Portrait of George Dawe (1828) and link to his portfolio.
Always a pleasure to go Frozen lore-hunting with @bigfrozenfan 😃
In the Art of Frozen, there are multiple illustrations of a very Slavic-inspired ice palace by Britney Lee and David Wormsley just like the one in this book that was clearly taken from Art of Frozen.
There is more from the Frozen first look special (2012) that you can watch here (X).
There is heavy, shared inspiration from Byzantine architecture like what is found at Hagia Sophia between Lee and Wormsley.
Does any of this look familiar to you?? Because it looked really familiar to all of us ...
That is the castle in the F3 concept art shared at D23.
It's pretty evident that they are planning to use story elements/themes/artwork that was held back from Frozen and Frozen II in Frozen 3 & 4. Since they're still in early storyboarding we're yet to see what else might be carried over and if it will include Snegurochka of Slavic lore or not as 1/2 the previous fifth spirit. Norse myth felt like the vibes when I first saw this concept art from D23 but now that I'm digging through the art books, I think it's going to be a blend.
Credit to @virtual-winter & @cloudberriesforaqueen for sharing their artwork scans and to everyone in the @arendelle-archives server for today's collaboration.
An absolute pleasure to dig deep into this unexplored frozen ground together with the amazing @arendelle-archives team! 😄
Here are also the two palace designs side by side!
It's remarkable how a design from well over ten years ago might be revived thanks to the sequels!
A big shout out to @cloudberriesforaqueen who made me stumble upon the old Ice Palace concept art and made me realise it's literally the same design as the new art from Brittney Lee!
And thank you to u/forresthopkinsa and @wintersovereign for being such great collaborators! And also not to forget @theartoffrozen (for providing heaps of concept art throughout the years) and Snow on discord for always bringing the latest leaks 😅

Frozen Observations turned 1 today!
I had no idea it had been that long! Thank you to the folks who find my posts interesting 😄🎂
Also shout-out to the side-project Arendelle Archives!
Taking a closer look at a lesser-known kingdom from the Frozen franchise. COMING SOON! 🫡
/Winter
The ship is a part of the brand new boat ride "Anna and Elsa's Frozen Journey" at Tokyo DisneySea, replicating a scene from Love is an open door. The ride also features some new animations of young Anna and Elsa and well as Elsa and Hans!
You can find other appearances of Hans's ship in our previous post.
Thanks to this post (requires an account) by twitter-user ann_mochi and this tumblr-post by @sparebutton , we FINALLY have a full map of the known Fozen movie-universe!
Previously, we've seen glimpses of the general geography of Arendelle and the surrounding lands from Frozen Fever, Frozen II and in books and promotion material surrounding the movies and I even wrote a 3-part series about Frozen's geography back in 2021, but never before has there been a source showing Anna and Elsa's world to its full extent and in such detail!
Original image.
Thanks to this image being framed and hung on a wall, the process of aligning it correctly was very easy! I used my ancient copy of SketchUp to edit and match the photo to a flat surface and with the help of Gigapixel upscaling, this is the result!
Note: north is to the left.
It looks awesome IMO 😍
For future installments, what we're missing are labels for other adjacent kingdoms, but it appears Disney never seems to bother with such trivial worldbuilding details.
Below, I've put together a quick overview of the areas visible on previous Frozen maps.
The Frozen Fever map mostly covers ocean. The northern half of the continent was changed in Frozen II.
Iduna's map from Frozen II map was the most detailed version we had for a long time and it added things like borders and names for the Arenfjord and the Dark Sea. It covers 3/4 the full map.
Technically, the whole map was also featured in the books "Frozen: The Saga - Anna and Elsa's Journey" and "Frozen II: Spirits of the Enchanted Forest" but it was impossible to attempt any sort of aligning because of the distorted perspective.
There is one more piece of the worldbuilding-puzzle (Weselton) that could be added, but I'll save that for another time.

It's finished! The newest addition to the Archives. With this family tree, I've tried to tie together all characters mentioned throughout the franchise that have family ties with Anna and Elsa or their parents. And there are quite a lot of them! If you happen to find this interesting and want to know more about the individual characters or how I came to some conclusions, I strongly recommend that you also read my previous work Anna and Elsa's lost family members!

Very proud to finally share this! I hope you like it 🤗

The world of Frozen is surprisingly rich with characters, events and places. Thing is though, most of them are introduced outside of the movies and short films and a lot of fans probably don’t even know they exist. In this project which I created last year, I set my focus on uncovering Anna and Elsa’s lost relatives!
/virtual-winter
Greetings to the Frozen fandom! Today is Thanksgiving Day of 2022, also a special day for Frozen. I think most Frozen fans may have made their own way to celebrate the ninth (third) anniversary of Frozen (Frozen II)’s premiere. As for me, I prepared a special gift for Frozen: the second edition of Annals of Frozen, also the second formal work made by Arendelle Archives. Now, I am honored to present this book to Frozen fans all over the world!
Annals of Frozen is a chronicle for Disney’s Frozenverse that summaries the complete history of both Arendelle and Northuldra, based on nearly all the official works related, including shorts, videos, novels, comics, etc. Its first edition was released in August last year, and since then, we’ve received many valuable feedbacks on it, which contributed a lot to the update. Even if you have read its first edition, I still recommend you to read this new edition, not only because it includs lots of post-Frozen II events from novels and comics like Polar Nights: Cast into Darkness (Note: this book contains SPOILERS for NEARLY ALL Frozen-related works released 2013-2022!), but also for that we corrected some mistakes and made many great changes on it, like the new beautiful cover designed by Winter Loves Summer. I’m sure it will provide you with very different reading experiences!
Much thanks to my friends who are willing to review my work, Winter Loves Summer, FrozenHeart and Yumeka, especially Winter Loves Summer and FrozenHeart who spent a lot of time reviewing this book very carefully for several times. And I also want to say thanks to all the Frozen fans who have contributed to this book by pointing out mistakes or providing valuable suggestions. I cannot accomplish such high-quality work without all these helps.
Last, it has been my dream to make a video version of this book so that more people, not only core Frozen fans, can learn more about the events in Frozen world and how they are related, but making a video is not as simple as writing a chronicle. If you are interested in this idea and know how to make editing for videos, please feel free to contact us. The dream for making such video will finally come true if more and more people join us!
*Enjoy the journey into the history of Frozen world through Annals of Frozen!

The title kinda says it all. This was a quick analysis I made covering the very niche topic of Prince Hans' ship. I found it has a much stronger presence in the franchise than you might think!
For a long time, I only had a single piece of concept art by Cory Loftis to go on but after finding the profile view in this post's title, I started looking for it in the movies. And it was there alright!
I owe great thanks to the fantastic blog @theartoffrozen (that collects amazing Frozen concept art) for being the source of many of the pics for this analysis!
So, here is my walk-trough of every appearance of Hans' ship!
/virtual-winter
Very interesting and in-detail analysis! I do however headcanon Hans' ship is the one destroyed in the blizzard and that's why he was sent back to the Isles in the french dignatary's ship.
The analized ship could have been important in the early development of the movie, when Hans' character was a nameless "Admiral Westergaard" (very likely an Arendellian) and that's the reason it has stayed in the franchise. We know there was a deleted scene of Hans and Anna sword fighting in a ship (surely the one analyzed). It's hard to know because a lot of changes were made during the creative process. Also Santino Fontana talked about a lot of deleted scenes of Hans, and as far as I know only the sword figthing with Anna in the ship has been made public.
Thank you for the added information!

This was the first collaboration project for Arendelle Archives, where a project was reviewed by one or more members before its release. With this project, we aimed to list every known (to us) Frozen title out there. As of 2024, a few more titles have of course appeared like the novels All is found and The fixer upper but see this as a close-to-complete list of titles spanning from 2013 to late 2022!
Prepare for a long read as this list covers well over 300 unique titles over 53 pages, including everything from the movies and novels to chapter books and one-page comics.
We hope you will enjoy this journey into The Frozenverse!

Another amazing Frozen fanwork has come to my attention! An Odyssey Through Frozen Geography, written by ImWaitingForWinter, chronicles the geography of the Frozen universe using the various maps and other sources we’ve gotten within the franchise, and ties them back to real-world locations. Like Annals of Frozen which I posted about recently, this digital book was a huge labor of love, and ImWaitingForWinter did a fantastic job of shining more light on the Frozen lore!
Here are some excerpts:
There’s quite an interesting discovery that’s made at the end when examining Iduna’s map from Frozen 2. I won’t spoil it here, but definitely give the book a read and find out. Lots of work and research went into it and I know I learned something new!
This was my very first Frozen analysis-project, completed in August 2021. Yumeka kindly updated the original post with a refreshed version that has some corrections and new pics taken by me during my Norway trip in 2023!
