"More than 1,000 reports…show how deceptive political fundraisers have victimized hundreds of elderly Americans and misled those battling dementia or other cognitive impairments into giving away millions of dollars — far more than they ever intended."
@wilwheaton I think it’s not really helpful to compare states this way. As noted by other rebloggers, Oklahoma and Massachusetts are very, very different places with different populations and histories.
I mean, Massachussetts didn’t become the way it is today by being some sort of post-scarcity space utopia. It is the way it is because it’s older and it has a huge concentration of old money.
And that old money came from being kings of shipping and manufacturing, from raw materials extracted from poorer states like Oklahoma. And, something something slavery.
All those great Boston universities with billion-dollar endowments aren’t public schools established by the state board of education; They’re by and for rich people, mostly.
Oklahoma was one of the first places where oil was commercially produced, but none of that wealth stayed in Oklahoma, because Marland Oil got screwed over by the Seven Sisters when they created their cartel.
I’ve been there and it’s a textbook case of corporate colonialism - small town economies hollowed out by sprawl and Walmarts, poisoned by underground oil leaks and resudues.
As noted, gerrymandering, the elimination of black and POC votes via criminal records, the disenfranchisement of indigenous peoples etc are all reasons why these states are semi-permanently red. Their population isn’t dumb, they’re being held hostage.
I feed my boy so that he’ll grow up strong
When i was like seventeen i needed to rent a suit for some bullshit important thing and there was an employee that took my measurements and at some point she said "many boys your age, they come in here and they have no butt at all. But you have a butt and this must be accommodated for" and at the time it made me self conscious but now that I'm a girl sometimes it echos in my brain as words of affirmation like I'll be getting dressed and just think "i have a butt and this MUST be accommodated for"
i think about this very often to but to be alive is such a privilege. you can smell flowers, eat freshly baked cookies, lose yourself in the pages of a new book, listen to heartwarming music and read soul crushing poetry, meet kind and funny people, learn something new. i think the miracle is in waking up every day

fun words :
Cute gender neutral things to call your partner
Just watched the banned Moon Girl episode.
>the episode addresses the topic of trans kids in sports >the entire episode is about how bigots will always move the goalpost, and playing by their rules is pointless >the solution is not to play their game and break the rules >it also states that trans people should never feel like a burden >the character Brooklyn is explicitly stated to be trans >there is also an explicitly nonbinary character >multiple mentions of pride and depictions of pride flags, trans flags and progress flags
I'm not at all surprised this didn't get past the censors but I'm so mad that it didn't, because this could've been something really special, and the fact it was canned after being fully finished is downright painful. This episode was wonderful and I'm grateful to all the people who worked on it, and angry that their hard work was wasted. Disney did not deserve you.
