sofia let out a shaky breath because now it was obvious that he was talking about her. "sounds like you still had time to tell her." sofia said as she looked in to his eyes, she had a crush on him. she always had. but she thought there was no way in hell he would be interested in her. she was mouthy and sassy and headstrong. she was a lot to handle at the best of times. "maybe it's not too late to tell her. if this boyfriend of hers is as bad as you say he is."

he steps closer to her, hand cupping her jaw. "yeah, he's the worst. boring, selfish, terrible in bed i've heard." he can't tear his eyes off her face, especially now he was that close. all his time trying not to cross any of these lines with sofia before, and now he was practically going out of his way for it. "you think you could keep it a secret if i kissed you?"

Her brows furrowed a little, but only for a moment as he spoke. "Has he ever bragged about me being a conquest?" She could feel themselves getting closer together, though she didn't even see him step towards her. His words shouldn't be having such an effect on her, but it was. He's his best friend. You don't do this. She kept trying to tell herself. But as their eyes met again, she didn't want to pull away from him. "I don't think that's even possible. I've never had one anyways, so you'd be waiting a long time." She shrugged.

"no, never. it's kind of fucked up because you were the one i was curious about the most." he admits, a brief nod of his head. "maybe it was to try and stop me from being curious, but i think it's backfired on him." he still isn't admitting that he was interested first. "never? not just one time with anyone? or yourself?" he steps closer again, hand reaching out to trace fingertips around her wrist. "you would with me, i'd make sure of it."

Olivia looked into his eyes as he leaned in. It seemed like it was a challenge, wanting her to shy away but instead she held his gaze. Was she bored of her boyfriend? Yes, but she wasn't about to admit it. "And you think you could honestly satisfy me? How do I know you're not the kind of guy that only worries about his own satisfaction?" Just like the man she was dating.

his gaze trails down to her lips, before he;s meeting her eyes again. "oh, i'm selfless. i've heard him tell stories about conquests before, he's got nothing on me. he views it as a finish line, and i..." he has to stop himself from touching her. "if it's over before i finish then so be it." he takes a step closer as he speaks.

"You?" Her brows rose, almost feeling like he was messing with her. She chuckled a little, tucking some hair behind her ear. "And why are you better for me than him?"

"aren't you just a little bored of him? i won't say anything." emmett leans in, almost as if he's baiting the exact response he wants. "you can't really tell me he makes you happy, and fully satisfies you. i've met the man before."

sofia paused for a moment when he said he couldn't tear his eyes from her. was that was this was about? no, surely not. surely he didn't have a thing for her. they'd known each other a long time now, surely she would have noticed. "so you're pining for a girl who can't be yours?" she asked and met his eyes for a moment. "must be rough, you sure she doesn't like you back?" she asked, biting her lip nervously. of course she liked him, she always had. but well, she had ended up getting together with his best friend and frankly thought he would never be interested in her .

"ah, well, she's already seeing someone. what was it you said, part time?" it was a dangerous game for him to be keeping up, but it was almost as if he'd lost control of his mouth. "see, i met her first. she only met him because of me, and i took too long to say anything and he moved a little faster. and they say athletes are all self absorbed..." he trails off, breaking his gaze on her face for just a moment. "maybe i'm a little bitter about it still."

"Wow. I have to say I'm surprised by this..." He was supposed to be his best friend, right? It almost didn't seem that way. "And who is better out there, hmm?"

"i mean, me for a start." and it was almost too forward, but emmett had passed the point of caring before he'd even said a word.

"clearly we do." sofia commented and looked down at the ground as he spoke. "well good for you for being a better man." she said with a hint of sarcasm, she knew she was being defensive because she knew everything he was saying was right. "too pretty? that's all the devotion comes down to? i know i'm hot, but i'm not the perfect girlfriend. i'm a crappy girlfriend. how come you haven't found someone to devote all your time to then?"

"you're obviously smart, and funny. but it's easier to want to be around someone all the time if they're good to look at. i can barely tear my eyes away." and that was the next line crossed. "i'm busy. i have practise, training, embarrassing devotion to the ideas of a girl who won't give me the time of day because she met someone else. my schedule is packed."

"not really, i tell my best friends anything. the rest are just normal friends. my best friends i'll do anything they ask." she said, maybe she had friends here and there that were different, but her best friends were like family. "you probably the answer yourself, he's -- you know what he's like. he's hot and cold. he's interested when it suits him, and most of the time that suits me because i work a thousand hours a week. part time boyfriend, part time girlfriend, i guess."

"maybe we just have a different definition of best friend." emmett shrugs, but his gaze stays on her face. "you don't think you deserve more than a hot and cold part time boyfriend? i'm not even in town and i could still do better if i was seeing someone." the if i was seeing you was unspoken, lines only being crossed one at a time. "you're too pretty for anything less than full devotion, i promise you that."

"he's your best friend but you're not really close?" sofia asked with a raised eyebrow, she found male friendships so confusing at times. "what is this? a therapy session?" she questioned defensively, of course she didn't know what she meant herself. because she knew she deserved better but it was always hard to walk away. "i don't need to explain anything to you. why do you even care?"

"you don't have a best friend where the friendship is a little questionable? i've known him forever but that's all." it was risky, a strong chance his friend would say exactly the opposite once prompted. "c'mon, you don't think we're close enough? i'm just curious."

" he's your best friend. aren't you supposed to be like his number one hype man or something ? "

"maybe i'm just a really bad friend. maybe i'm secretly praying for his downfall." or maybe emmett was lucky he even remembered his name around her. "he'd do the same to me, i'm pretty sure. so that cancels it out."

"aren't you meant to tell me that he's the best guy in the world and be his hype man? he's your best friend, maybe you're the only one that can get away with saying that. i -- he loves me. in his own way."

"he's my best friend, sure. but we aren't really close like that, i'm not dying for him or anything." and maybe an easier explanation is that emmett is rather selfish, not the one to let things just stand in the way of what he wants. and he wanted her, he'd wanted her longer than his friend ever had. "his own way. explain that for me."
