Oh, I did receive a photo of my niece in the monster dress! It fits just as I hoped it would, a bit long so she can wear it longer. I used to make my daughter’s dresses long, and she would wear them until they were knee length! (She has her hands tucked behind her, by the way, I just realized that looks a little confusing.)

Once again, the print for the fabric came from:

It's so cute!! I hope she gets lots of wear out of it! (Link to the monster fabric post)

I made this creature out of wire & fabric scraps a few years ago and never took pictures of it because it looked unfinished and I wasn't happy with it (last picture) and this week I added a bit of fur and I think it's a little better. I'm still not thrilled with it. I'd have liked to put some antennae-like things on the head, but the neck is too short for that to look good next to the fur, and I tried to put some sort of fabric eyelids on but it looked bad so I didn't.

But overall I think it's alright, especially the tail and feets, and I shouldn't fuss with it anymore. It can go on the shelf and perhaps sometime I'll make another, better creature!

Here's the monster print waistcoat next to some of the original drawings. This bit of fabric was part of a fill-a-yard I got to proof a bunch of Spoonflower designs, and I just barely had enough material for the waistcoat, so I couldn't do any pattern matching on the pocket flaps. That's ok though, the monsters can wander wherever they like. (There are 24 monsters in total, and I have 8 other coloured versions of the monster pattern on my Spoonflower.)

The buttons are covered in a quilting cotton from my stash, and the lining is a dark brown cotton bedsheet from the thrift store. The back is coarse linen twill from Pure Linen Envy.

I put some topstitching around one waistcoat pocket flap and then foolishly sewed them both on without topstitching the other, but thankfully it was just a running stitch so it wasn't too hard to add. This is made with one of the monster patterns from my Spoonflower and it's almost finished! It's got more machine sewing than I usually do in a waistcoat, and I've just got hand finishing left to do now.

And the 3rd and 4th of my new patterns are these monster ones! They're drawn in pen and scanned, as usual. I did some round monster polka dots, and some monsters trapped in a lattice with little starbursts where the lines intersect. (I entered the purple version of the Monster Lattice in a Spoonflower contest, but I'll post about that on February 3rd when voting opens.) Not much to say about these ones except that the lattice pattern is heavily inspired by a fabric sample from the Cooper Hewitt collection.

These are all up on Spoonflower, MyFabricDesigns, and Redbubble.

I entered the purple one in the colour of the year Spoonflower challenge and voting is open from February 3rd to 8th, 2022. I should warn everyone that there are over 1500 entries in this one, which is way more than usual and it takes a heck of a long time to look at them all.

Hello, do your any of your monsters have names? I’m looking for smaller embroidery projects (I’m pretty new to embroidery and they seem less intimidating than larger projects), and was thinking that I might embroider some little dragons, sirens (real animals similar to axolotls), and such to be the “guardians” of the various compartments of my great-grandmother’s sewing kit, and I think that your monsters would be cute there. I’m not sure how their name(s) would come up, but I thought I’d ask.

Most of them don't have names, especially since a lot of them are very similar generic lizard-ish shapes, but I've got a couple monsters that do have names.

This one's Elyse. (She does have a lower jaw, it's just very thin.)

And this one's Fancy Geraldine.

I have a few more with names on a sheet of paper somewhere, but I'm not sure where it is. I think there's a little fluffy one I named Peat, but as far as I can recall Elyse and Fancy Geraldine are the only two specific named ones that I've drawn multiple times.

Good luck with your embroidery!
