in my version of stranger things steve grew up close with his mother. he was totally a momma’s boy. but once steve hit around eight, his father said that she coddled steve too much. that he’d never get anywhere in life if he was always babied.

it was a big argument between his dad and mom after steve had an accident and fell off his bike. he walked up to his mom in the kitchen, crying, all scraped and bruised. ofc his mother held him and was cleaning the poor boy up. but it was just another argument that his father won. he always did. so his mom kissed his forehead and left him alone to finish cleaning himself up.

and now, after he’s been in fistfights and/or fighting evil monsters. he refuses any help to clean his cuts. he can do it alone. just like he always has. he really doesn’t want to hear his father’s voice screaming at him and his mother in the back of his head.
