Based on all the dramas I've seen, the most dangerous place to be in the jianghu, perhaps in the whole three realms and four continents, is at a wedding.
i love mini cdramas so much because it's like:
however,
Li Xiang Yi and Di Fei Sheng being each other's nemesis: a brief summary.
I was reminded that I haven’t yet posted my 2022 fave dramas list, so here goes:
China: Under the Skin: crime drama where a criminal portrayist unites with a police unit. Love Between Fairy and Devil / Cang Lan Jue: Xianxia drama that was the surprise hit of last Summer. Japan: Kieta Hatsukoi: Teenage romance between two guys who are still unsure about things. In Western series, Heartstopper was in the same bracket, and just as good. Kei x Yaku: Abunai Aibou: Crime drama that is more on the bromance side of things. A policeman has to join hands with a yakuza to find out who killed his superior/his sister. Old Fashion Cupcake: A salaryman nearing 40 feels like he way over the hill, but his younger colleague decides to help him fulfill his dreams. A lovely slow burn bl romance.
Korea: Semantic Error: Another bl, off the opposites attract variety, enemies to lovers. Also has a banging title song. Through the Darkness: serious crime drama based on Korea’s first criminal behavioral unit. Serial killers, analysts getting burned out by the cases they have to encounter, and some horrible crimes. A Business Proposal: light, frothy romcom at it’s best. Ridiculous premise, some humour, some drama, fun characters and good chemistry between both lead pairs.
Taiwan: Rainless Love in a Godless Land: Environmental themed fantasy drama about the gods leaving this world. But did they all leave? Water god Orad did not, because he had fallen in love with a human.
Thailand: Kinnporsche: La Forte: The bl series of the year. Mob boss and his bodyguard boyfriend, with some side stories.
China: The Blood of Youth The Embroidered Shoes Qing Luo A League of Nobleman Detective L The Starry Love The Heart of Genius A Familiar Stranger Desire Catcher Back from the Brink Justice in the Dark (8 episodes) Mysterious Lotus Casebook Lost You Forever S1 My Journey to You I Am Nobody A Journey to Love
Japan: Maiko-san Chi no Makanai-san Candy Color Paradox / Ameiro Paradox Informa Kabe-Koji-Nekoyashiki-kun Desires to be Recognized / Kabe Sa Doujin Sakka no Neko Yashiki-kun wa Shouninyokkyuu wo Kojiraseteiru Unnatural MIU 404 Minato’s Laundromat 2 / Minato Shouji Coin Laundry 2 Yu Yu Hakusho

Since there won’t be more episodes of Love Between Fairy and Devil / Cang Lan Jue until Sunday, I kinda might have (finally) started to watch Love and Redemption. Only three episodes in, but since I still have vacation this week, let’s see if I end up binging.
FYI in case someone hasn’t seen this yet.
I can’t say I feel much of anything about this since it only makes official (it’s obvious NRTA is on board as well) what was already clear for months even if it was unofficial. I probably would have been pretty depressed a few months ago but by now my main reaction is “duh.”
Oh well, they can always use dangai slots for more brain dead romcoms and patriotic stories about speed skaters or carrot harvest. Maybe a speed skater falls in love with a carrot harvester and very heterosexual romcom hijinks ensue.

Apparently NRTA issued a statement calling all drama makers (and other types of entertainment) to focus on glories of CCP through modern day for the entirety of 2022.
AHAHAHA
It looks like Word of Honor really will be the last airing cdrama I will ever finish.
I’ve watched enough communist propaganda as a child so I am full up already so thanks but no thanks. But look on the bright side - that guy who played Mao 14 times in dramas so far is probably gonna add more numbers to his Guinness record so the old saying it’s an ill wind that blows no one any good is definitely correct.
What? WHAT???

WTF?! I guess it’s a good thing I only got into Chinese dramas recently, so I have a huge backlog of things watch and/or finish. But things in China and in the Chinese entertainment industry seem to be getting stricter and crazier by the day.
So I noticed a lot of people keep commenting that sets and “cities” in C-dramas that had basically no budget as being super pretty and that they can’t believe they managed that with no money. Here’s the thing: Many C-drama are filmed in Hengdian. There are a few other filming studios that are also popular, but I would say Hengdian is in the top 3, or maybe top 1.
Hengdian is one of the largest film studios in the world and is one of the most popular places to film a period drama (area total of 3,3 km2 and building areas of 495,995 m2).
If I remember correctly, there are at least 13 shooting bases. Some buildings, palaces, areas are made in the style of Qin and Han dynasty, others are exact replicas of certain buildings (like Yuanming Yuan, the old summer palace).
It’s FREE to film in Hengdian. How do they stay in business, you ask? They make the money from hotels, restaurants, and renting out equipment & costumes. Some dramas or movies take only 1 month to film, others can take several months. Also Hengdian is huge, if you couldn’t tell, so there can be several film crews working at the same time.
I would also like to point out that you can visit as a tourist.
So far there are over 1200 films and C-dramas that have been filmed in Hengdian! Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hero, The Forbidden Kingdom, Mulan are some films that were filmed there.
If you watch other Chinese period dramas, you will recognize several buildings. Some C-dramas in recent years you might recognize are Once Upon A Time in Lingjian Mountain, Joy of Life, The Untamed, Word of Honor.
Like this one! Recognize it? It’s where they had that boyband karaoke consert thing in Once Upon a Time in Lingjian Mountain

I hate this god in My Roommate is a Gumiho how can he call our Gumiho a mere animal he's basically so noble yet he has to deal with this BS it's confirmed I hate all gods in dramas other than Bai Jue from Ancient Love Poetry.
Here is a quick guide to drama deities:
Kdrama: with few exceptions, mean bastards who should be put into a barrel and shoved over Niagara Falls.
Cdrama: with few exceptions, noble and hot and with sexy hair.
A rule of thumb that has a 90% accuracy rate (since there are always exceptions and outliers) for figuring out if a deity is from a cdrama or kdrama:
Do you want to bang the deity and will the deity reciprocate your desire to bang? If the answer is yes, you are watching a cdrama.
Is the deity a sociopath bent on making good people suffer for no good reason other than “that’s how the universe works”?
If yes, see first question. If your deity wants to bang, congratulations that is a cdrama deity and they will probably have a change of heart before the end of the drama.
If your deity doesn’t want to bang, sorry, you’re watching a kdrama deity and there will probably be endless suffering for the main character for the next 10+ episodes or so.
The hypocrisy of the so-called "righteous" sects seems to be quite a running theme in the cdramas I've watched. Yes, the demonic sects do evil things, but they are honest about it, whereas the "good" sects do all kinds of dastardly deeds but still keep up their front of righteousness.
TGCF SHL AND HYX ARE TRENDING ON WEIBO WHAT IS GOING ONNNN
HAHAHAHAHAH okay for everyone else’s benefit this ask is about why TGCF HYX and SHL are trending on weibo at ranks 19, 20 and 21 respectively right now:
SHL is trending because it’s always trending these days
For TGCF it’s trending because it seems they have confirmed Ding Chengxin for a main role BUT it’s not fully confirmed
HYX for the April 8th airing date that was released by insiders but not yet really confirmed but then some major drama site(s) changed the air date to reflect that, we don’t know
all rumours guys except for whatever is fuelling SHL’s trending movement right now, i’m just repeating what i see, this is no confirmation and yes it’s a rumour
Just finished watching The Romance of Tiger and Rose and I loved it so much. Following the plot twists and the self-aware scriptwriter trying to force the story to go on a path of her choosing while the characters were going their way was so much fun to watch. I thought the happy ending in real world was a bit forced, but it’s still a happy ending, so I’ll take it.
This drama made me go on a full-on binge mode, and I was cursing my stupidity when I watched ”just a few episodes” (read: 7) the day before I knew I was going to my sister’s to spend the Christmas and wouldn’t be able to continue until after I got home. In essence, I finished the drama in three days of watching.
I have to say the few Chinese dramas I’ve watched this year have all been good in their own way. I had watched some Taiwanese dramas before this, but I have always been leery of the length of most Chinese dramas. The Untamed (another binge watch) showed me that I could finish a 50 episode drama if the story was good enough.
Maiden Holmes was fun and sweet, Love Is Sweet was saccharine sweet, but I liked Luo Yunxi and Bai Lu in it (couldn’t care less about the secondary pairing, though), Twisted Fate of Love isn’t quite finished yet, but it’s so close I’m counting it in this tally. Even Psych-Hunter, which I’m far from finishing and have been watching at a pace of few eps every now and then has an interesting mystery storyline. The only disappointment has been The Legend of Fei - I watched 12 episodes and thought it a waste of the actors’ talents. I haven’t fully decided if I’m dropping it yet or if I’ll try a few more episodes of it.
Have you watched Love and Redemption? If not I recommend it it's actually finished already.
No, I haven’t, I’ve only recently gotten into cdramas and am still a bit wary of their length, since I tend to hop from one drama to another if one doesn’t immediately grab me. This is also why I find it weird that I am so addicted to Twisted Fate of Love right now. Thanks for the recommendation.
ETA: Wasn’t L&R the one where the ML was coughing up at least a blood packet per episode, and the FL turned into a man at some point, IIRC correctly from @dangermousie’s posts about it?
