I'm obsessed with the idea of Inej having Kaz represent her in some kind of negotiation or deal in Ketterdam while she's out at sea kicking ass and the person she's trying to work with proposes something and Kaz is just like: *sigh* While I think that's a great idea and we should definitely talk after this, I'm contractually obligated to tell you that it's horrifyingly unethical and Captain Ghafa won't accept it. Here's her counterproposal. But seriously, hit me up later.
Obsessed with the idea of the Crows working a job where they have to blend in at an event or something and Kaz keeps getting checked out, and he’s like, damn, do you think someone recognized me? Is it the cane?? Do you think our cover’s blown??? and Inej and Jesper are just side eyeing each other like…who’s gonna tell him?
Also consider: Kaz misreads someone hitting on him as a challenge to a fight.
Broke: Inej is an unreliable narrator when it comes to Kaz because she’s blinded by her feelings for him, and he’s actually worse than she believes him to be
Woke: Kaz is an unreliable narrator when it comes to what he thinks he’s willing to do and he repeatedly comes up with fake justifications to deflect from the fact that he has clear lines he won’t cross, and Inej is the only one who sees past the persona he’s created enough to call him out on it
This guy gets it
Honestly, based on my experience with religious ethnic parents, I feel like Mr and Mrs Ghafa would actually love Kaz. Like,
"He's the ruthless leader of a terrifying gang."
"So you're telling me he's wealthy, career-driven, and employed at 17? He's not a believer, but we can work on that. What a nice boy for our Inej."
"He kills people–"
"Such :) a nice :) boy :)"
Okay so this is obviously super depressing (Kaz being betrayed by yet another father figure) and I'll probably talk about that later, but can we take a second to focus on the papier-mâché part? You're telling me one of the Dregs is good enough at paper-mache to make a crow head? Is there a bruiser for one of the clubs somewhere that's also just incredibly skilled at sculpting? Do they teach arts and crafts in the Barrell? I have so many questions
Inej: Murder and revenge aren't the way, Kaz. Killing Rollins won't make you happy.
Kaz: *tells her what Rollins did to him and Jordie*
Inej: ...now, if I kill him then that's not really revenge, is it? If anything, that's justice. I mean at this point it would be immoral for me not to kill him, if you really think about it.

Props to Kaz Brekker for being protective but not possessive over Inej. He knows the difference between “she belongs to me” and “she belongs to no one” and I love that
inej’s father tells her that she should find a boy who will “learn her favorite flower, her favorite song, her favorite sweet. and even if he is too poor to give you any of them, it won’t matter because he will have taken the time to know you as no one else does. only that boy earns your heart.” and it’s funny because it’s not a poor boy who earns inej’s heart, the challenge her father anticipates.
it’s kaz, who has money, that’s for certain. and then he spends every last cent of his earnings on buying out inej’s indenture. and then when he gets the money back he buys her a ship. money is kaz’s religion but he tosses it away for inej in a heartbeat, and then he kisses her neck in a bathroom as his world ends.
kaz didn’t just learn inej’s favorite things, he gave her the ability to reclaim them. and he not only knows her favorite flowers and songs and sweets - you can’t spend months of your life going to heists with someone and staying up all night with them not knowing those things - but he took the time to know her as no else did. he knew what she needed, to be seen, and he gave that to her to the best of his ability.
kaz didn’t give inej flowers but he gave her knives, he didn’t sing her her favorite song but he told her he would crawl to her, and he didn’t buy her her favorite sweets but he gave her a ship and the salty taste of the high seas. he had enough money to get her all of these things but he didn’t, but he knew her and he saw her when she wanted to be invisible and that’s why he earned her heart.
