'Then must I leave my own people, man of Gondor? And would you have your proud folk say of you: “There goes a lord who tamed a wild shieldmaden of the North! Was there no woman of the race of Númenor to choose?”'
'I would.'
→ Ride for ruin and the world’s ending
No other scene conveyed what the book did so well. Is also the single most epic moment in the series.
The Fellowship of the Ring (series), by Joe Gilronan
…when they arise from their quiet fields to shake the towers and counsels of the Great. Who of all the Wise could have foreseen it? Or, if they are wise, why should they expect to know it, until the hour has struck?

Are we not part of this world?
This scene is so somber. It gets me every time. The fact that these four friends have been through so much, individually and together, and now they’re back home. Back in the Shire, where the rest of the hobbits don’t know death and destruction and misery on the scales that they have experienced. So they have this bond that surpasses friendship, that will forever tie the four of them together. To sit in the Green Dragon having a drink must feel like the most surreal thing after what they’ve gone through. And you can see it in their faces, how floored the are by the simplicity of it all. All around them is laughter, is conversation, is merriment and cheer and that wonderful good-nature of all hobbits. These four feel different now. They will always be different. They move on, of course, each in their own way. But they’ve changed. They’ve grown. I just love that we get to see them all together again, immersed in the place they call home.

“But, but, lord,” Merry stammered, “I offered you my sword. I do not want to be parted from you like this, Theoden King. And as all my friends have gone to battle, I should be ashamed to stay behind.” “But we ride on horses tall and swift,” said Theoden; “and great though your heart be, you cannot ride on such beasts.” "Then tie me on the back of one, or let me hang on a stirrup, or something," said Merry. "It is a long way to run; but run I shall, if I cannot ride, even if I wear my feet off and arrive weeks too late.”
"Well here we are, just the four of us that started out together. We have left all the rest behind, one after another. It seems almost like a dream that has slowly faded."
