13 days of witches: the herbalist witch
“Magic is natural, for nature itself is magic.” ― Paracelsus
For any ailment, grave or small, you will likely find a remedy or relief somewhere in the herb-witch's home. It is more a medicine chest than a dwelling place, every surface and corner given over to the preparation or preservation of some ingredient or cure. Nor is it bound by the physical limits of walls or doors. Gardens banked with lavender and rosemary, dew-wet fields redolent with the scent of trodden herbs, and even the shade of the forest boughs where the woods entrust their treasures to the witch's blade and basket-- all of them are equally part of the witch's home. Her realm-- for it may truly be called such-- spreads around her like a spider's web, intricately interconnected and ever changing, the network through which she passes along the endless chain of activities that fill her days. Her hands-- rough and stained with sap and the musk of kitchen herbs-- are ever active: weeding in the garden, drying flowers in the pantry, dressing wounds and applying balms in her workroom. Her feet likewise, are rarely still-- they carry her across the warped wooden floors of the house, through the garden rows, into the misty twilight fields. Her mind, in harmonious concert with her surroundings, considers an herbarium's worth of tinctures and recipes and a calendar's breadth of plans, wherein present, and past, and future intermingle. Interior and exterior, wild and domesticated, clinic and dwelling mix together in the witch's home, just as science and magic, logic and feeling combine in her discipline, and passion, talent, and calling blend together in her art.
