no offense but nina simone could consistently interpret a song that definitively belonged to other artists (”my way” - frank sinatra, “here comes the sun” - the beatles, “just like a woman” - bob dylan, etc) and produce something so fresh and groundbreaking that you would swear she wrote the song herself
