The reason why i say this is because I’m pretty sure their sans reference was some stolen Mafia AU thing. He had a suit and tie and a crack in his skull. No idea why they chose that look, or came to the conclusion that that was his canon appearance, assuming they just looked up the characters and bullshitted their way through making a tutorial.

these ones aren’t too bad honestly, aside from style inconsistencies (wait is that the “story of undertale” Alphys-). Pretty sure Muffet is missing a bow, though.
these two are just nit-pick complaints, but Frisk shouldn’t have open eyes, and the Annoying Dog just looks off. i think it’s the eyebrows. also Undyne has a nose.
these two just straight up look cursed. Toriel’s eyes are much more detailed than the rest of her, and Mettaton’s hands are just… why. his arms also just look oddly long? idk if that’s just me though.
the skelebros are the most cursed though. Like what is up with this papyrus? why is his chest plate also his rib cage? why is he so weirdly detailed???

Nightmare canonically being a spirit who got put into a body that he is potentially uncomfortable with is one reason! And the immense bullying he faces due to something he can't control is also very trans coded as trans people face that kind of bullying all the time
His shape-shifting abilities is also in my interpretation very trans coded power to have
If anyone has anything else to add I'd love to hear! I don't know as much as a lot of people when it comes to canon and would love to learn <3
Not only that but he and dream were both balls of energy placed INTO male bodies,, meaning that their true forms (the little fireballs) had no gender, but were placed into bodies that were male and now identify with male pronouns.
I've been saying this for the longest and i'm glad that people see it now (especially with roadkill-creatures artwork of a trans nightmare)
Transcript: I'd love love LOVE to see more "alternate timelines" or AUs for Underverse and Xtale instead of the same "Truce, Ink found and inspired XGaster, and things spiraled out of control leading to the XEvent" and "Cross is in the Nightmare Gang now and either finds a place to belong or is in for a hellish, awful time and runs away into Dream's arms" tales. I know those settings are good for sadboi Cross angst hours but if I wanted to read the same kind of origin stories for Cross and Xtale over and over again I'd just rewatch Underverse. It really feels like there isn't much variation done with Xtale and Cross. Why not make an AU where Dream or Core Frisk meets XGaster first and it still goes horribly wrong in a new way? Maybe Core Frisk tries to directly steer XGaster away from whatever bad path they see for him and they go to meet him before Ink could but it goes even worse for everyone even though Ink isn't involved. And Dream's positive aura is addicting, right? How would that affect XGaster, his motives, and his creations? Or how about an AU where Ink finds out what XGaster's been doing to his kids, reflects how his own dads could have mistreated/manipulated/weaponized him, and he gets the kids out of there with XGaster chasing them across the Multiverse? Maybe a No Truce AU where Error finds Xtale before Ink can and XFrisk or XChara is the sole survivor that Ink manages to save from Error. Or an AU where Xtale is at peace and Cross is restless and inspired to become a Star Sans along with Dream, Ink, and Swap so they travel and defend the Multiverse together. Or an AU where no one finds Xtale and the Multiverse is not involved at all but XChara and XFrisk somehow survive XGaster's death so they have to live in their isolated world alone for a while and, Idk, Cross is an imaginary friend of theirs that becomes real or something. Anything different than Xtale and Cross's canon backgrounds and Nightmare's Gang Cross. Dream and Nightmare have a bunch of different AU selves that go into what-if territory, why not Cross and Xtale? Be creative! (Feel free to use any of these ideas, by the way.)
well there is a fic on ao3 where when Cross kills everyone his universe didn't turn into a white void and monster kid is the only other survivor, it's called XVexVerse by StrelitziaMystery1097, but it hasn't been updated since January unfortunately.

I have an AU--very canon divergent, fair warning--but it has similar story beats to XTALE/XTALE is important.

Transcript: I really want to draw out my au but I'm not good enough. I could draw out a chicken scratch of a storyboard but once the job of having to fully flesh out the drawing is when I'll start getting uninspired because my anatomy is inconsistent, the colors are flat and the background is bland that I'll just give up finishing the drawing.
I want to tell a story but I can't express it. I'm afraid that by the time I trully learn how to draw, I'll no longer want to show the story.
Do what your mind desires, if images don't do then write It like You want It, otherwise you may forget about it
Transcript: I love au rewrites! Not out of spite for the au’s creators or because they’re “better”, but because I love to see the different ways people interpret the story and characters while still having the same core elements.

Sometimes it can be due to just "hey, I wonder how this could've worked if [x] event happened differently", or if there were story arcs that never got closure, or if the au itself was messy as a whole but had a genuine interesting idea that just needed a solid path, or just, because someone loves an AU that much. I think it's great to see people who are that passionate over the work of other people to the point where they want to make something inspired/based out of it but with their own touch. to me it's when like people make fangames of an specific game, or when people write something based on a story that had an effect on them. people love creating and exploring and indulging in other people's works and to me that's the nicest thing ever

I've been here since the beginning. I literally was here before Undertale's first anniversary, but since I posted my AU now, Its too late for it to mean anything to people. They only care about the OG AUs from 2016.
Unless the fandom suddenly resurges in popularity, new creators are done for.
I have to say, new AUs that have a completely new concept in them could be a breath of fresh air for the fandom. So, go ahead, be wild. Keep creating. Don't worry about being unnoticed at first, give it a time.

And it just feels so??? Bad??
Like I love and appreciate both those people but it feels like I'm betraying moot 1 when I interact with dadmare from moot 2 and vice versa.

Folks can filter their own online experience just fine. For instance, I have a wonderful moot who doesn't like Errink, but I occasionally find great art that features the ship. So I tag the ship with 'errink' as I reblog it. That way, the post is filtered and they don't have to look at it.
You're most likely not online to be constantly diplomatic, so why do so? And who knows, maybe your moots like both interpretations but just prefer one over the other!
