As a child, absolutely zero understanding. That's just canon.
As an adult? I would hope he picked up on how people present themselves, cause the other alternative is Chichi had to tell him to stop pat-patting people. 😅 That, or Bulma or Roshi taught him. I'd like to think a woman taught him though.
