I know most of tumblr is thinking about the USA right now. but fuck the nz government right now too. tomorrow, the treaty principles bill, the 'worst, most comprehensive breach of Te Tiriti in modern times' is being introduced to parliament early, because there were activations planned country wide and the cowards decided to pull it forwards. fuck this government. a friend of mine had to go home early, crying. I've been in shock all day since it came out.

check on your Māori friends, e hoa mā. see what they need. see how you can help. everyday, we see and experience racism. from people around us, up to our government. community care will save us.

Filming on a television series, believed to be the first mainstream prime-time production to have 30 percent of its dialogue in te reo Māori, has just wrapped in Taranaki.

The Warner Brothers Discovery-backed drama Tangata Pai is being made in partnership with Te Atiawa iwi and Ngāti Te Whiti hapū.

It tells the story of five people whose worlds collide when a bomb is detonated at a peaceful Māori protest against a licence to mine a sacred site.

Writer-director Kiel McNaughton, who has whakapapa to Taranaki iwi and Parihaka, said the show had parallels with past struggles and contemporary issues such as seabed mining.

"In terms of Māori needing to stand up. Stand up for their rights, stand up for their land, stand up for what we believe in.

"And we are having to do that now and we were having to do that 140 years ago, so for me it's about looking at what's changed. Has anything changed?"

McNaughton, who is still on his reo journey, said it was important to normalise the use of the language.

"What's exciting about this is that it is being embraced by a broader network which has a much larger audience.

"And being able to get this 30 percent reo content, which shouldn't be intimidating for a non-Māori speaking audience, so for us to have that on Three and for Warner Brothers Discovery to support this is really exciting."

Former journalist Mereana Hond, who is from Taranaki and Ngāti Ruanui iwi, is overseeing the use of te reo and tikanga.

She said Tangata Pai would include subtitles to make it accessible to as many people as possible.

"The fact that it is 30 percent te reo Māori is what sold it to iwi that have chosen to be a part of this.

"This is a collaboration, it is a partnership, there is a memorandum of agreement between iwi and the producers to create something which tells our stories in a different way."

Theres heaps of background talent here in Ngāmotu, so that's been terrific to engage the local community and have them come and be a part of the series and the filming.

"And then we have lots of crew that we've brought from different parts of the country. The majority I would say from Auckland."

Warkia - who has Scottish and Papua New Guinea heritage - agreed with Hond that one of Tangata Pai's strengths was its illustration of how disputes could be dealt with.

"The idea of maungaarongo which is very much about creating space for people to speak even if they have very different opinions.

"Creating a space where they can specifically discuss all of those differences, and that is healthy and important and shouldn't be avoided."

Filming of Tangata Pai, which has Te Māngai Pāho and NZ On Air funding, has now moved to Auckland.

It will screen on Three and Three Now next year.

here’s the link for the lebanese red cross ^^ any donation helps

if the .app URL makes you hesitant since it's a nonstandard top level domain, pressing the donate button there redirects to: https://donate.redcrossredcrescent.org/lb/supportLRC/~my-donation

redcrossredcrescent.org is one of the official domains used by the international federation of red cross and red crescent societies, and various red cross/red crescent organizations globally make use of the international federation's fundraising tool rather than hosting their own (a relatively recent example is the red cross in ukraine while they were responding to the impact of the russia conflict)

just wanted to let you know you can donate in confidence!

Anything you can contribute helps. There is power in numbers. We know that as disabled/ sick/ ND/Deaf people we are often poor or broke, but we can pool our money to collectively make a big difference. We also know that there is a rich tradition of poor and working class people donating more than middle class and rich people in general, and of poor and working class disabled people sharing what we have as a form of collective access and solidarity. We also call on people with access to money and/or wealth to contribute as you can.

you can choose which challenge to do each day based on your own ability, or even make some of these harder if you would like!

would love to hear any feedback, even just reblogging and putting in the tags of posts how you went with the challenge

aside from this, every little bit you do to reclaim te reo Māori helps! the theme for this year is ake ake ake, a forever language, and that is all we are really looking for, is to strengthen the hold this language has on the people of Aotearoa, and give it then holding power it needs to endure for as long as any other language, despite attempts to get rid of it

A series of tweets about racism in fandoms from August 10th. All of the @s have been censored.

First tweet: a thing about fandom is people don't want to think critically or talk about serious issues. they would rather quietly enjoy content which is valid ofc but for minorities we literally can't peacefully enjoy fandoms because people don't ALLOW us to.

Reply 1-5 is a mini thread made by a person responding to the first tweet.

racism is the DEFAULT. when poc comment on it its bc theyre fed up with ignoring it. We didnt just wake up one day to start shit. We just stayed quiet and ate our food bc we like everyone else, just want to enjoy things. But how can we when we log in to racist shit Everyday??

non poc don’t know how its like to expect casual racism and microagressions everytime you enjoy a new fandom and thankful at least no one’s throwing slurs around. When poc are angry it’s after years and YEARS of pain of trying to ignore it just to enjoy things

theres sooo much casually racist behavior in fandoms that if i blocked every fandom that has had some racist shit it would be literally everyone. Which shows how poc literally CANNOT avoid this environment by default like non-poc can to enjoy what we want. We have to go

the extra step of heavily curating our feeds or having to sacrifice self respect just so we can enjoy something like everyone else can. If ur fandom expects ppl to be quiet about racism and forbids critical convos about it then it wont ever be anti-racist and ur not protecting

your safe space, ur protecting the status quo. If ur “safe space” requires poc to be silenced then its not safe for US and its bullshit. If poc being open about their experiences endangers ur safe space then maybe ur safe space was only safe for racists idk 🤥🤥
