something I love about Adaine's detect thoughts, is all the bad kids played a part in taking Porter down. It was the gift Fabian gave her for Mooner Yulenear that made it different than a normal detect thoughts that let her reach Ankarna. it was Riz's roll to get allies that brought Sandralynn into the fight and she picked Adaine in the turn before she used her detect thoughts so they could win. Fig and Kristen are there and willingly fail her detect thoughts so they have a wide range of persuasive evidence even if Porter succeeded on his roll. And Gorgug used one of his gadgets that he was building up the whole season with his new subclass to lower Porter's save so that Porter failed the detect thoughts.
Adaine by her own admission isn't good at faith stuff, but she has faith in her friends. They have never let her down and they were all there to catch her when she took a leap of faith and it saved the world

there's something so poetic about kipperlilly copperkettle—who hated one of her classmates for daring to be better than her and having a dead dad, who refused to improve herself and instead chose to be bitter and entitled, who was so obsessed with being Special and Important like she felt she deserved that she willingly worked with a rage god, betrayed her party, and killed her friend—getting killed by fucking. Hold Person. her fancy optimal build IMMEDIATELY folding in the face of riz's cleverness and experience and applied knowledge. like, imagine someone spending years fixated solely on racking up EXP and getting the Best Abilities, and then when she dies, she's killed not in glorious combat but by a clever, practical application of a 2nd level spell that she NEVER would have ever thought of using because she has no creativity or adventurers' spirit, cast by the same classmate she always hated with a watch his dead dad gave him.

The Bad Kids are hunkered around a small table in Krom's Diner, digging into their plates of cottage cheese and ice cream, completely exhausted. Kristen Applebees, with her tracksuit unzipped and tied around her waist to show her sports bra and shirt, toys with her fork and watched the cheese fall from its prongs. Her phone rests on the table, face up, and glows purple as Cassandra continues to message her sole follower.
Gorgug Thistlespring is sat next to her, not bothering with his mostly-cleared plate, and is instead staring down at his phone. His headphones rest around his neck, his goggles up on his hair with a slight mark from where he's been wearing them on his face, and he's wearing his grey hoodie. Riz Gukgak is peeking over his arm at the screen, curious, and is sandwiched between him and Fabian. He appears to be the most awake, always too wired in to properly show his exhaustion until he is overwhelmed and already searching for the next mystery to solve.
Fabian Seacaster is fully zoned out, staring off into space, and is sat with both his arms on the back of the seating behind his friends. There is a small bandage on his jaw and various bruises are littered over his skin from his tumbles under the wheels of the van. Adaine Abernant, on the level of tired where she looks slightly manic, is floating her utensils over his head in a blue glow to amuse herself. She's hunched over with poor posture, also ignoring her food, and entirely focused on her spellcasting as if it's the only thing keeping her both awake and sane.
Fig Faeth is chewing a large mouthful of her cottage cheese and ice cream, leaving splatters on the table and her shirt, but the tiredness is catching up on her. There is a large bandage over the back of her right hand, soaked with blood, from where she'd let a hit land from a balista.
The sun is rising and the sky is warm colours as Elmville wakes up, ready to start another day and herald the new year of school. The Bad Kids, with no fanfare or greeting party for saving the world yet again, are well aware they will not have time to sleep before their first day of school.]

Something I love about the Bad Kids is that we get the impression that they’re never really alone. In freshman year we saw them sort of fall together, and now (Junior year) they are always together unless specified. Sometimes a couple of them have to go do things (like when Adaine was going to work) but mostly… they are a set. Hell, most of them live together. Half of them are siblings now.
Even when someone is having a sidebar with an NPC, someone else’s chime in to the conversation and it always seems like they’re just There.
Something about this group of friends naturally orbiting one another, never really having really intense fights within the group. They’re a family. Ignore that their lifespans will inevitably cut one another off, obvi. But I don’t think that Fig IS going to leave the Bad Kids to go with Ayda, at least not permanently. They mean too much all together, and I think Emily knows that just as well. But the whole summer is likely going to be a fun little vacation (for once). The last summer before it ends. Even if the Bad Kids stay together after graduation, they won’t be the same as they are now, and that’s one of the big emotional things they’re going to have to deal with for Senior year (eventually)

this entire episode was a place haunted by Riz's nightmare, with the people dearest to him turning into the personification of his fears - and then every single time he is about to come into contact with Baron he is not in the room or Adaine casts a fucking spell to prevent it or Murph rolls a 1 and that's as funny as it is amazing.
