Wonder Woman Nouveau, by Adam Hughes.
Steve Rude’s Norman Rockwell styled Wonder Woman painting. It was published in Wonder Woman # 200, as a PinUp in the back of the comic (2002-2003ish, I think).
Would this situation change the DC Universe for the better…or for the worse? And finally, if Circe revealed her identity and told the truth on how, when and why she posed as Diana to, say, Hippolyta, Donna and Cassie privately, what would their reactions be?
the Amazons are a race of highly educated, highly intelligent, battle-hardened Warrior Scholars. If Circe put in the effort to fill Diana’s role as Wonder Woman, I think Hyppolita would respect her efforts at affecting the greater good. Obviously, they would mourn Diana, but Circe would be respected for being Wonder Woman.
Artemis filled in as Wonder Woman back when Mike Deodato, Jr. was illustrating the book. It is not unheard of for other people to carry on in Diana’s place, and the Amazons are not opposed to it. And Hyppolita did not want Diana to be Wonder Woman in the first place. Circe would be viewed as a champion of a noble cause.
What would happen if New Earth Diana died during Infinite Crisis and Circe disguised herself as Wonder Woman/Diana (with no one realizing or noticing she's actually the evil sorceress)? What happens if she sees and understands all the good that comes with being Wondy? In what way would this effect her?
Circe is many many things, and mostly mercurial in her nature. However, in all of her incarnations, going all the way back to her appearance as the sorceress that ensnared Odysseus and his men by turning them into animals, she has remained steadfastly duplicitous. She likes games. She likes to mess with people. And she does not like to learn. She actually likes to “get even” with people who try to teach her things.
Circe would play as Wonder Woman for as long as it amused her to do so, and then she would probably bring Diana back because she missed the fun of messing with her.
As far as reading it goes, I think it would read a lot like Superior Spider-Man. It would be a heel turn for a character that everyone knew would be changed with the next creative team at the latest. Superior Spider-Man was fantastic. I loved that book. Dan Slott is continually killing it on Spidey, and he made me care about Otto. Point being, it would depend on how DC handled it, and who wrote/illustrated the story. Any pre-conceived cynicisms could easily be erased by a good story.

This design works for me more than I thought it would. I am very happy that it does not look like she is wearing the "Playboy's Salute to the Troops" swimsuit that she wore back in the day. She is a warrior princess from an island of immortal warrior/scholar women. She should look like she can kick the shit out of you, and she does. Bravo.
