The Simpsons move to Metropolis. What happens?

Avatar

Luthor discovers and attempts to weaponize the ambient chaos surrounding the family to try and finally destroy Superman, and Lois begs Marge to finally come to her senses and leave Homer.

...but Luthor’s plan doesn’t work because Homer eats some chemical of compound that was crucial to Lex’s plan. Instead of becoming a monsterous villain like Parasite, Homer just sort of becomes... a super powered version of Homer. Just as lazy and stupid. So, like, a 10 foot greenish blob with Homer’s head that doesn’t bother anyone, it just lies around drinking Duff Beer and eating Donuts. Lex tries to use Homer as some sort of weapon, but Lex ultimately gives up and puts Homer behind the desk of some menial task.

Superman meets him, initially wanting to help this poor soul. Then, Superman gets to know Homer and just leaves well enough alone.

Marge goes back and forth on leaving Homer. She ultimately decides to stay with him. She loves him, even though he’s... Homer.

Bart makes a career out of terrorizing Jimmy Olsen.

Lisa follows Lois around incessantly until Lois makes Perry give her a job doing something else.

And Maggie is still a baby.

JLGL posted these process shots on his facebook page.

“Don’t give me that crap, Smallville! We agreed on 5:30!!”

“Lois, language...”

“Can it, Kansas! You can fly faster than a speeding bullet! Why were you late?!”

“Because if I flew too fast, they might have gotten ruined.”

“...what would have gotten ruined?”

They’re inseparable now. They’re family. - Clark Kent/Superman

Fluff. - Lois Lane

I think it’s kind of sweet. - Clark Kent/Superman

Adventures of Superman (2013-2014) #43

Writer: Ron Marz

Artist: Evan “Doc” Shaner @evandocshaner

Colours: Matthew Wilson

This popping up in my mentions tonight was a nice surprise. It feels like decades since we did this story, and it’s strange to look at these knowing what I’d do differently now. I did love drawing these two in this moment though, the way Ron wrote Clark and Lois together was a joy to draw. This was also my first time working with Matt Wilson, who is fantastic and boy oh boy did I not deserve him.

Couple things I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned now that I’m looking at this again, for anybody who might care. Fearing like this might be the only Superman story I’d ever get to draw, I threw in as many references and visual callbacks as I could over the whole story:

– While not the same colors, the model of train Superman is stopping in the newspaper photo is the same as the train from the main titles of the George Reeves Adventures of Superman show, which I watched every morning with my coffee while I drew this issue.

– The newspaper on the left is pulled straight from the Fleischer Superman cartoon The Mechanical Monsters, both because it’s a favorite of mine and because it alludes to the strange visitor showing up in a few pages. The Daily Planet logo used on both papers is also pulled from the cartoon, because it’s my favorite. I took it directly from the cartoon and cleaned it up, hoping I get to use that file again someday.

That’s Ron Troupe in the background narrowly avoiding Jimmy Olsen spilling coffee all the hell over the place. Knowing that I wouldn’t get to draw any of the classic Superman villains, and that a good chunk of our issue took place in the Daily Planet, I got as many of the paper’s staffers in there as I could. Cat Grant and Steve Lombard show up in the next few pages, and they’re all on the cover. I inexplicably love the Daily Planet supporting cast so that was a lot of fun.

– Lois’ hairdo and clothes are based on Amy Adams’ portrayal in Man of Steel, though that’s supposed to be where the similarities end. Even with all the issues I have with that movie, I loved Lois’ look.

– Lois is wearing a Daily Planet badge that I made up special before we started, even though it ended up being shrunk down so small here you can barely make it out. I made ones for Clark and Jimmy as well, even though those never made it into the issue. I’ve still got the files somewhere though.

– Finally, not a Superman reference, but the two brothers Clark is writing a story on are based on my brother and I. Clearly, much older, but I’m the one with the glasses. I never told Matt this, and he put me in a pink sweater. So that’s what I get. They show up again at the end of the story and that was a lot of fun throwing us in there.

I hope any of that is remotely interesting. I loved drawing this story and really enjoy seeing it pop up again here and there.
