I cannot help but think that when Colossus and Wolverine first tried out the fastball special, they missed their target a couple of times. Meaning that there were a couple instances of Colossus just picking up Wolverine and throwing him across the danger room, and completely missing the bullseye or the hoop or whatever. Consequently, Wolverine just got thrown into a wall by his friend. And they did it over and over again until they got good at. Now I am imagining the sounds coming from these danger room sessions.
“Ready, Petey?”
“Da, Tovarisch!” *Hnnnf!*
“Grrrr… Cccccraaaapppppp!!!!” *THUD!*
….
And then repeated instances of the same for a couple of hours. and Cyclops just sitting in the control room laughing.

I am a big fan of the fastball special. It's a long-standing tradition with some very basic thinking: 'OH NO! What are we gonna do?!' 'Well... We CAN throw Wolverine at the problem.' 'Scott, you can't throw Wolverine at all of your problems.' 'I agree, but we don't know which category this problem falls into yet, so let's test the theory.'
