Hey, y’all remember all those other Zack Snyder movies? The way the trailers looked FUCKING AMAZING!!! and then the actual films turned out to be hot garbage?
I bet this time, it will be completely different.
The only thing I can count on with most Snyder films: muscle eye candy. Ever since 300, I have left satisfied and we know Momoa won’t disappoint.
Oh, I think we can count on some on some thrilling, even awe-inspiring spectacle. Snyder is exceptionally good at that. His problem is that this is literally the only thing he knows how to do. When it comes to connecting these scenes to each other and assembling them into a coherent whole, he is fucking clueless. People complain that he doesn’t understand the characters (and I’m inclined to agree), but the bigger issue is that he doesn’t understand how to tell a story.
Full disclosure: I loved Batman v. Superman. But at the same time, I would never suggest that it is anything other than an objectively terrible movie. It’s one thing to have a plot hole or two, but BvS’s plot is made entirely of holes. It’s a handful of truly awesome action sequences with nothing but these yawning plot-chasms in between.
I hope I’m wrong this time, because I’m going to see it. I hope Snyder took some of the criticisms to heart and learned some lessons from the experience. But I doubt it.
Sigh. I’m still clinging tightly to the hope that his interference in Wonder Woman (I think he’s an executive producer?) was kept to a bare minimum.
Agreed. I just watched BvS again the other night. I own the special edition on BluRay.
That is a very pretty movie. It is a TERRIBLE movie... but it is very, very pretty.
There is no real plot to it. It really is just a loose collection of action scenes that were taken directly from the comics, and then glued together into a weird montage that vaguely progresses for 3 hours. But it is very, very pretty. And everyone except Jesse Eisenberg was perfectly cast and acts their part perfectly.
It was also a lot better than Man of Steel.
I am hoping that Zack Snyder continues that upward momentum and delivers a more coherent film with the Justice League movie. I am a huge, huge fan of the DCU, and I want a movie that shows a wider audience why the Justice League is awesome. Basically, all Snyder has to do is tell a story that does not rely solely upon the strength of the characters. There has to be a story. A good one would be nice.
I am hopeful, and I really want it to happen, but Snyder's track record inspires a lot more skepticism than faith at this point. So we will just have to wait and see.
