Terry Austin's cover for Uncanny X-Men # 142, and a colored reprint of John Byrne's unused cover for the same issue. If memory serves, John Byrne's original cover art for Uncanny X-Men # 142 was lost by the Canadian post office. Terry Austin ended up doing the pencils and inks for the cover that got published. By the time John Byrne got the artwork back, the issue had been published already, so a pinup was all that came out of it.

Did you ever tell us what you thought of x men days of future past?

I enjoyed the movie, a lot. I was purposely going into this with lower expectations, but Singer and crew were successful without it.

There was real emotion during the battles against the Sentinels in the future. You could feel the desperation, and mounting sense they were all going to loose. They way the movie was filmed in darker colors, and somber in general helped to drive it home.

They nailed Blink.  Her power was portrayed as I imagined it would look.

Quicksilver was great. So glad I did not have to eat crow with the naysayers. I can’t wait to see how he is portrayed in the next flick. Loved his “ooops” moment when he found out what Magneto was imprisoned for. The guilt he was feeling later, after seeing what Magneto would do one he was free had me feeling bad for him. He had no idea what he had walked into until it was too late. I imagine he will be a changed man the next time he meets his father.

Magneto has possibly the best arc over the course of the series. I have seen some people who were disappointed at the lack of growth in his younger self. That would have limited the impact of Mckellen’s work. He was in no way prepared to accept a new way of life. He had just spent the last decade oh his locked away. He is still angry, and to expect more of him really shows a lack of understanding in the forces that made this man.

Logan makes perfect sense to be the time traveler. His intro scene, smoking the cigar as he departed the jet was perfect. They don’t dwell too much on him at the expense of other cast members.

Xavier has hit the interesting point of his evolution between First Class, and the original trilogy. Looking forward to seeing where he goes from here.

Raven was the movie. Could she be saved, or was she destined to become the person we meet in the first movies. Lots of emotion with her, and it bled through to me as a viewer.

Singer expertly wiped The Last Stand from the record, with a simple motion. We get the return of two important characters, and solidify the the tragedy of Logan’s unrequited love.

The movie is a different animal from The Avengers, and really can’t be compared apple for apple, so I won’t.

The would have acted as a wonderful ending to the franchise. I would have preferred a reboot under the Marvel brand, but I am happy enough to leave it in the hands of Fox right now.

Agreed on all counts. Flaws and all, Days of Future Past was a very fun flick. I enjoyed the hell out of it, frankly.

So freaking true….

I am pretty happy with the decision. From everything I am seeing, there is no way this movie could have done the return of Cyclops right. THere is almost too much going on as it is now.

With the way Singer screwed up his presentation in the first two films, I have no interest in seeing him try to bring him back during what looks to be another Wolverine movie.

I would rather have them deal with this after they are working with whatever the new playing field is going to be post DOFP

I agree. Marsden was also miscast. If anything, I would have cast Hugh Jackman as Cyclops, and Dougray Scott as Wolverine. Marsden does not come off as a leader and the script does not treat him as such. I hope that they reboot from this point forward, and use it like Claremont did.

'Days of Future Past' is also when "Uncanny" was officially added to the title. The longest running theme in the X-Men is the looming threat of extermination. Days of Future Past showed a very clear explanation of what the worst case scenario for the X-Men would be. And therein lies the secret to a long term drama series: drama.
