John Cassaday passed today, September 9 2024.
I saw John at the Baltimore Comic Con 2-3 years in a row, and I spoke with him briefly at both the NYCC while we were both milling around the Marvel area, and at Wizard World Philly at the Bar.
John was soft spoken, reserved, polite, and above all he was observant and kind.
Comics lost one of our best today. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones.
He was only 52.

It's the late Alex Toth's birthday, a creator that is INCREDIBLY important to Bronze Age DC...in a roundabout way. His character designs for the Super Friends were likely the most prevalent visual designs for the big DC icons until the arrival of Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez. His economy of line and stripped down designs were huge influences on BATMAN:THE ANIMATED SERIES among other iconic works and artists!

Basically, Alex Toth was Bruce Timm for the 1950s-1980s of comics and later animation. Super-Friends, Herculoids, basically every major character at Hanna Barbera.
If anything, the OP undersold his importance. I have never been to a comic book store that didn’t have at least 1 or 2 Alex Toth art books lying around. If you don’t know his name, it’s because you haven’t read enough comics yet.
