On the left is a New Mutants Splash by Rob Liefeld. On the right is a House Ad by Jim Lee for his run on Punisher: War Journal.
I’m posting them together for a reason: they’re very, very similar art styles. Jim Lee is the best of that art style, and he’s done very well for himself because of it. Rob Liefeld has generated significant controversy over the years, with a lot of people critiquing his artistic skills and talents. If you look back on it, his panels are a little weird at time, and he doesn’t seem to enjoy drawing hands or feet. The same criticism applies to Jim Lee. It really, really does. Rob Liefeld has been having his stuff published since the Early to Mid 80s, and he’s still going. He must be doing something, or else nobody would publish his stuff. Lay off of Rob Liefeld ~ he’s genuinely nice and pleasant to talk with at conventions too. So is Jim. Of those Image guys, I’d rather chill with Rob Liefeld than Todd McFarlane. Seriously, go talk to the guy at a con. He’s pretty fucking cool.
