some penciled artwork by “Our Pal Sal” Buscema.
Sal was always overshadowed by his elder brother, Big John Buscema. There are only a few families art wise that can compete with Buscema’s (John Romita sr and John Romita jr, Kuberts Joe Andy & Adam, John and Marie Severin, Fabio Moon Gabriel Bá; Hernandez bros)
Some get the shorter stick, like Sal Buscema. I am not saying he is better than John, I am saying his work is too often downplayed for not being as good as that of John’s.
Oh, completely.
While looking for the images I have been posting today, I have had to dig quite a bit to find Sal Buscema artwork. Most sites and pages are full of Big John, but not much from Sal.
Sal Buscema is and always has been a great artist. More than anything though, Sal is dependable. As dependable as the tides.
